Replaced belt, new belt is burning when pump engages

I have an Amada ALW480DAW. The belt burned/broke when I accidentally overloaded it. I replaced the belt, and now it agitates perfectly. However, when the pump engages to drain the basin and the idle pulley thingy relaxes the tension on the belt then I can see/smell that the new belt is burning as the pulley spins and the belt stays stationary.

Any brilliant ideas? Is it possible that there's just some residue from old belt that needs to burn off? Or perhaps the pulley is shot? I did notice that the pulley was a bit rough inside, but I'm not sure if that's a big deal or if that's normal. Perhaps when the old belt burned it damaged the pulley, which is now damaging the new belt.

Thanks in advance!

My alternator/water pump belt keeps burning through - in seconds. Why

Hi Rob:

The crankshaft os part of the engine that rotates when the engine is running, so if the engine runs, the crankshaft will be turning.

The reason the belt is burning through is that someting else must be seized. With the belt off, EVERYTHING that the belt touches MUST be able to rotate. So, check the water pump, alternator, AC pump, tensioner, Power steering pump. You'll find it.

You need to observe and check after disconnecting the power , touch the motor, the element area or the control panel or the valves/pump.
If you notice any heat on these , it can be the culprit.
You can proceed to remove the suspected part to discover what was the reason for the burning rubber smell.

I replaced the belt ( burned/broke), now it locks up in the spin cycle (some times) and when it spins water over flows the top?

Sounds like the bakes are locking up on the transmission. Do you have the cabinet opened?

My washer wont spin and it smells like it is burning it is only 3 yrs old

The burning you smell is probably the belt slipping. There is a belt which is attached to pulleys. The belt engages to spin the basin in the washer. When this belt slips the burning smell happens because the pulleys are spinning and the belt isn't. You will probably need to adjust the tension on the pulleys or get a new belt. This can happen from constantly overloading the washer or trying to get the washer to wash and extra large load while the water level is set at a smaller load.

Overloaded washer, smelled burning. Washer works

On this machine, you most likely just burned the drive belt. The old dependable care transmission design was pretty hard to kill, so just get yourself a new set of drive belts. Very easy to replace/install. You can just tip the machine back to access them. There is a lip on the bottom of the front panel that will hide the pump belt but enough room above it to unwind it off the pulleys. If you want, the front panel can be removed, early models used two phillips head screws to hold the front on or later versions used two clips on the bottom that you can release with a putty knife. Pull the bottom of the front panel forward to un-clip the top and away you go.
Good luck!

Amana dlw330 washer belt burned & broke again after I replaced it

well if hte washer belt is "burning off"" that tells me the motor is trying to spin at full speed buthte transmision pulley is holding it back, can be a few issues, either the brake is notreleasing correctly or, the transmission is locking up .
