Shuts off after 20 minutes says the cell needs clean. It's clean. took it to sears charged me 30 dollars to tell me it was in the circut board. Which wire can I cut to by-pass the sensor that tells me to clean the cell and shuts off the purifier? $300.00 machine that does me no good shutting off all of the time.
This suggestion helped me because as I was examining the cell for debris I noticed markings for "Top" and "Bottom" inscribed on the four corners of the front of the cell that I had never noticed before. After cleaning I had installed the cell upside down. It would work for 20 minutes and then shut off. The rounded thingies on the bottom of the cell are contacts which should touch the little springies on the bottom of the housing.

call the company and send them a copy of the receipt and also one from the return and tell them they can't add.it seems like they are charging you a restocking fee or some hidden fee. I would investigate much more than asking out here.
Yes there is a thermal cutoff that will shut the motor off for a period of time to protect it from getting to hot. If this is what happened after 20-30 mins. the motor should come back on and run again. If it does I would try to clean motor as best I could using a soft brush, vacumn, and blow out with air if possible. Clean fan of f as best you can to help motor run cooler.Hope this helps.Thank you

Oh there are a lot of known issues! I used to work for sharper image
and I believed in this items very much so until mine broke. However
after a year I figured out how to fix it. Take the big square
collection grid out and the back screen off. Now get you a thick rag
and be very careful because there are several tiny wires going up and
down. Smaller than dental floss, you need to be very careful because
you can either brake them or slice your finger wide open( Under any
circumstances I can not be held liable for the information I am giving
you try this at your own risk). Now with the towel very gently go up
and down each wire like you are polishing a brass pole(once again these
wires are thin and can break or cut you). Do this from the back side of
the unit and from the inside where the collection grid that you took
out sits. Take your time and be thorough, and presto your 400 dollar
air cleaner is working again.
Unit likely had large partical like dog or cat hair cross over cell, Unlplug and remove pre-filter & cell.
The unit has a timer that knows when power has been removed & front grille has been taken off by 2 micro switches in back of front grille that is connected to the units control board.
While you are there remove pre-filter & Cell, if ok and no debris is found & theres no need to wash, wait 10 to 15 minutes replace all & plug back in.
You should see the LED display flashing Clean Cell & Cell button flashing, hold Cell button in at least 3 seconds this may take longer to reset. Unit should turn back on.
This condition has happened to my 2 units on occasion even though I had washed the cell only a week or two previously.
The unit will turn off if a cell overload is detected by way of large static discharge. If I know the cell is clean, I just unplug the unit & take the front grille off for 15 minutes then & replace it plug back in & reset & all goes back to normal operation.
If it says "Clean Cell Now" and it is a new machine, it is broken. I have six, yes six, of this model. They are all new and you shouldn't have to clean the filter/cells for a few months.
The way to clean is:
remove the white cover
remove the prefilter. Good time to clean the prefilter by removing the 2 retention clips and gently swing the prefilter outward. Clean or groom it with a vacuum. Use the upholstery brush. wash the prefilter in warm, soapy water. No Chlorine! Rinse clean with regular water. Wipe with a paper towel and let dry completely. It is okay to gently use a hair blower to speed up the drying process.
Onto the Cell.
The cell can be washed one of two ways. Either in a hot tub of water or in a dishwasher.
Wear gloves to protect your hands. Never touch the fins or wires. It will ruin them and cut you up. Use the two handles.
Use hot water and dish detergent.
No chlorine and no abrasives.
Soak for 10 minutes, then dip a couple of times to remove stuck dust/dirt/schmutz.
