I have a wirlpool gu1200xt dishwasher. the pot and pans light is blinking, rinse only is blinking, and cancel light is blinking. i have unplugged power and tried to reset. this did not work. i removed the lower panel and found the diagnostic papers. tried entering the diagnostic mode and unit will not recongnize or entery diagnostics. if i plug unit back in and hit cancel right away it will drain, then if unplugging and replugging unit will start to fill on pots and pans only. it will run for about 10 seconds and then shut off and blink the pots and pans light. i removed the control panel and did not see any burnt resitors or anything. also cancel function does nothing except make the rinse only light start flashing. any ideas?

Similar Kenmore Dishwasher 665.18664000. Time saver and Quick rinse were the only programs that would run. I pressed "high temp scrub" then "air dry" then "high temp scrub" then "air dry" and the machine went into a diagnostic mode and counted down from 10 while running a series of tests. After about 10 minutes and various test cycles the machine reset and the "normal wash" light had come back on. If this doesn't work then you may have a problem with the controller which other threads have mentioned replacing yourself for about $120.
The red light tell you there is a fault. You have to read the fault code and it will give you a general idea of the problem - to do this you have to enter the service mode of operation - close the door and turn the dishwasher on. The Start/Stop light must be blinking. If the Start/Stop light is not blinking, press and hold the Start/Stop button for at least 3 seconds to exit the cycle. The Start/Stop light should now be blinking.
Press and hold the Start/Stop button while turning the dishwasher on. Release the Start/Stop button and immediately press it 2 more times. These are known to develop sticky switch contact pads. They stick in the contacted position and stifle the panel. Sometimes heat can be applied with a hair dryer to release them and make the unit function again. This is more than likely a temporary fix. New panels are available for about $165 to $200.
Try pressing heated dry, normal, heated dry, normal keys within 6 seconds. All lights should come on and the machine should enter diagnostic mode. If this does not work remove the 2 screws that hold the toe panel on at the bottom front of the dishwasher, attached inside you will find a tech sheet that tells you how to enter the diagnostic mode. Once you get it in diagnostic mode let it do it's thing, will take about 20 minutes total. At the end the control will be reset. If the fault comes back then troubleshoot according to the tech sheet, or call for service.
I've finally tracked down the manual and it the fault code is as follows "Indicates a fault in the heater or in the thermistor" You can go into a fault tracing mode by pushing the "Rinse Hold" button five times within 15 seconds. The first, third, fifth and seventh lights will flash when in this mode and you can test the following parts by pressing the corresponding button. I'm going to try the heater test below and assume that if that works the fault must be with the Thermistor. The other tests could be useful for other faults. User manual found here Rinse Hold - tests detergent solenoid, detergent flaps open after about 60sec Pots & Pans - tests Rinse Aid Solenoid, rinse aid will flow down door Normal Wash - tests water inlet valve, water can be heard entering Light Wash - tests ventilator solenoid, there will be a click followed by a rattling noise Quick Wash - tests the heater, the element heats up, WARNING don’t touch element HOT Temp - tests circulation pump, the pump starts Dry - test outlet pump, the pump starts Manual says to push 55 and 65 degree button to exit, I have no idea where those are so will probably just switch off at wall to reset. Hope this helps someone. I rang ASKO and they said they didn’t know what the fault code meant so either they can’t read or their service sucks, probably a bit of both!
I may have fixed my similar problem- I opened up the machine to get access to the control panel as tech17 advised- then in addition to disconnecting the mylar ribbon, I disconnected all the connections to the control panel.... keep in mind to ensure not to confuse any of the connectors you disconnect. Running a cycle at this time... seems as if working.. can't tell if water is running or just the motor- -- HA! -- i confirmed no water being pumped in.... We then found a float switch (Item 30 on schematic) that got loose from its casing on the front interior right lower side... we put that switch into its proper place and now ALL IS WELL!!!! Yippee!!!
you'll need to enter a diagnostic mode, press in this order, hi-temp(sani-rinse)----heated dry--hitemp---heated dry... all lights should light, close door and let cycle for about a min, after press the cancelbutton, you should be good to go, the buttons on your model may read slighty different names, if this "toggle of buttons" does not work, you can remove thelower access panel and htere willl be a tech sheet/trouble shoooter behind the panel, in there it will explain how to enter diag/test mode
