It is behind the control panel but easy to get to if you remove the metal skin from the whole microwave (3 Screws)

Does not heat food

Could be one of a few things. if everything works but no heating of food.there is a fuse from the magnetron transformer to the big capacitor check if it is blown. If everything works but the sound is just different ,almost lower in pitch check the diode from the capacitor to the metal casing ,, it \normally goes short circuit. Then if all is good, very likely to be your magnetron. Magnetons are expensive .

Suddenly it does not work. No clock no light up in the panel.

Open the unit. On top where mains come in would be a big fuse normally 10amp , its blown. This is almost always caused by faulty door switches. Also check diode from the big cap to earth. be careful the cap can store high voltages even when unit is off.Discharge capacitor first with a wire to earth.Make sure the unit is off.The fuse will also blow if that diode is blown.they usually go short circuit.

I have an Emerson MW8992RD model and just opening the door blows the fuse! any idea ,could it be a bad door switch? if so where can i purchase a new 1?

Definitely sounds like a defect or misadjusted door switch. This site has venders of M/W parts. FYI,Federal law requires a leakage test after door repair, magnetron replacement or interlock repair.

Unit is dead, no display no turn on Worked fine one day, dead the next

it maybe the internal fuse tht has blown all microwaves have a monitor fuse inside some where the mains power comes in and some on the control pcb it does mean that a short circuit has accured but it can happen if the door is slammed you will need to remove the top cover of the unit to find the fuse and be very careful inside everything is very sharp and door make sure it is unpluged also inside a microwave i a large capacitor this can store power even with the unit off it should be grounded b4 working on the unit but a long as you are just changing the fuse you should ok do if you can use insulated pliers for your own safety,if u fit a new fuse and it blows again thn my advise would be to take it to a a repair shop as the high voltage side of your microwave is up to 4000-5000 volts

Emerson model MW8997w sparks when turned.

I bought a piece of mica from an appliance repair business and cut out a new piece. Microwave is working fine. Apparently food carbonizes on the mica and causes the microwave to spark. If anyone has this problem, call around and find a repair shop that buys mica by the sheet, rather than paying for a piece from the manufacturer.

Where is my fuse

Usually on the floor of the oven behind the control panel or between the door switches.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

Emerson MW8987B Not Working

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

It may be the fuse, which is usually located behind the grille or on the floor of the oven behind the control panel or between the door switches.

When checking TCOs or thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

The TCOs you need to be concerned usually with have all black or white wires only. Please reply with photos if you have questions.
