i've seen those pictures but what is not clear is how to access the coil? from the top, or back panel? my newer model maytag it was right under the control panel? can you buy an individual coil or do you have to buy a heater assembly?

Here is a link to a parts site that shows the dryer breakdown. The left side of the page are the different views, it will aid you in how to take it apart.

The heat element is in the lower right side as you look from the front of the dryer

    Hi Ron,

On this model you have to take the front of the dryer off. There are two screws near the bottom of the front panel, with those removed you pull out slightly on the bottom of the front panel then down to release it from the top. There will be wires attached to the door switch so be careful not to break them. You can swing the panel out of the way or remove the wires from the door switch and set the panel aside.

As far as the heater, I know you use to be able to get a coil and restring the element but I am not sure about that today, I usually just replace it as an assembly. I would call a parts dealer tomorrow and ask to be sure.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Maytag dryer motor does not come on . replaced motor still does not come on. the electric element does come on.

This is very strange. Are you sure the heating element comes on?On most models I know of , motor has to be running for heater element to come on. Come to think of it your model has a centrifugal switch (attached to motor )it's probably bad .The heater probably thinks the motor is running.

Give that a try

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Location of Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse is located near the heating element. The part number for the replacement kit is LA-1053. You can view an illustrated parts break down of your dryer at Just type in your model number and locate item 5 under the "Heater" section. Pay close attention to the instructions in the thermal fuse replacment kit. One thermostat is for a GAS dryer, one is for an ELECTRIC dryer. Read the instructions and make sure you use the correct one. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

I would unplug it. It sounds like the selector is broke. Servall carries appliance parts. Make sure the appliance is grounded. You are paying big bucks on the electricity if it is working 24/7. Go on internet and enter your model in search window. You can find diagrams online. Good luck.

Heating element is getting red hot - like a heater.

No the first thing I would check is the vent going outside may be cloged the air going across the heating element should keep it from glowing real bright

Maytag haevy duty stack washer dryer unit model # SE1000 series 06

I hope you got this fixed by now but if not I'll put in my 2 cents.. I assume that your dryer is electric and not gas. Assuming that is true then you probably have an open heater element.. similar to this used in electric stoves... There may also be other components that could have failed and in so doing, disabled power to that element. Could be a contactor or temp switch/thermistor.. Hope this helps and that you've already solved the problem...
