I would test it with a new cord .. start easy .. most of the time its the easy fix.. if not it might be something costly so .. buy a new cord from walmart because if it doesnt work you can always take it back

How to fix black screen of death

The Black Screen of Death is probably just your tv/projector not getting an image from the PS3 console.

Obviously, first make sure the PS3 and television/projector are actually on.

You should then make sure all cords are firmly attached to the PS3 and you television.

If the cables are snugly in place and you still have the issue, you should make sure the PS3 is outputting the correct video. To do this, power off your system, then press the power button to turn it on, but keep it held down for a couple of seconds. It should beep and your video settings will be reset.

Still nothing? Make sure the cables are working. Swap them out with cables you know that work, or test the cables in question on something else (another PS3 or old PS2 for the regular cable, anything that has HDMI out for the HDMI cable).

Really? You still have the issue? Okay, maybe the problem is more serious than previous thought. You might have to send it in to Sony, which can be done here. They take forever to send it back though, and if you're out of warranty it costs $150 (it's free if you're under warranty though!).

Alternatively, if you're awesome and feeling adventurous, you can fix it yourself. Here's a guide, and more can be found online.

Regardless, hope everything works out!

Iam not able to get a picture from my hdmi cable, but can still here sound. tried three different hdmi cables... please can you help...

1. Your Connections Are Faulty

Quite often, the cause of the no picture problem is a simple one - loose cords. Make sure that the cords are plugged in tightly, both on the TV side and the PS3 side. This is especially true with the HDMI cable connection on the PS3. Often, it looks tight, but you still might need to wiggle it a bit more to seat it correctly. Along the same lines, make sure that the cords you are using are new and match the connections properly on both the TV and your console.

2. Wrong Connection Settings

If you are using the HDMI/DVI cables and you don't get any picture, make sure to check your video ouput settings. If your PS3 thinks you are using standard A/V cords to connect to the set, you'll have issues. The opposite is true too - if you are using the A/V cords and your PS3 thinks otherwise, you'll have the same no picture problem. Make sure you settings match the types of cable connectors you are using.

3. Wrong Resolution Setting

This is also an easy mistake to make that can result in no picture showing on your television screen. For example, if you've been using your PS3 with an HDTV and then try to hook it up to a standard definition television set, you'll encounter this issue. The cure is simple; just go into your settings and switch back to standard resolution and then restart your system. The 720p resolution is the default setting and this should work for most standard definition televisions.

PS3 IS ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD LATELY WHEN I PLAY GAMES AND JUST NOW WHEN I TRY TO WATCH MOVIE THERE ARE LINES THAT FLICKER ON THE SCREEN SO I'M WONDERING WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. POSSIBLY DIRTY EYE??

Not a dirty eye. That would cause skipping and freezing. This is a video problem. Try replacing your video cords for your PS3. If this doesn't work, then it's an internal video issue, and you will need to contact PlayStation to see about getting it repaired.

I have a HDMI problem with my PS3. I have it

You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard. 1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video) 2. Select [ Video Output Settings ] 3. Select HDMI 4. Select Resolution 5. Select Screen Size 6. Save the settings 7. Reboot the console. This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though. Let me know if it is still giving you issues.Hank GATpro Repairs

if the problem persists outside of the ps3, i'd say its time for a new tv. however if it doesnt you can try checking your video plug and make sure its still securely in there

When playing games the screen on tv has white lines and the screen shakes.

Have you tried this PS3 on another TV?
We've had some older TV's that will do that on their own... that's the only reason I ask.

Well there are various opinions on this forum, but the one shows up most definitely as a solution is to prevent the ground prong on the PS3 power cord from getting into the socket, something to do with a ground-loop issue. They suggest getting a 2-prong to 3-prong adapter/extension, or, cut off the ground-prong.
Other things mentioned elsewhere include purchasing non-oem video cables... people suggest that the ones which come with the PS3 ****.

I myself have never experienced these issues, so I cannot verify them first-hand.

About the screen shakes... here's a fixya link which seems to get to a successful resolution.. check it out:

Sony Vaio VGN-Cr220e "Blurry colored lines all over pc screen"

that is a faulty data cable from the system board to the back of the lcd screen. you can try reattaching the cable yourself, or replacing the cable with a new one. You can use an external monitor and it should be very clear. That means the issue is not the system itself, but rather, the cable that connects the screen to the board.

Cruster jumps allover screen

Try updating the video driver and the BIOS. See if anything changes. If not change try booting to Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if the issue occurs there. If it does, replace the palmrest, if not edit MSCONFIG Startup group and Non-Microsoft services and see if the issue stops.

Also, id you haven't moved the system from it's location, try a different room or outside I've seen appliances like air filtration systems cause point issues too
A palmrest on Ebay, generally abour $50 to $100 depending on model

Dvd or game not playing

If this is an issue you have always had (meaning you just started using the system) it may be a resolution problem. If your PS3 is set to display movies or games in a resolution your TV can't handle, you'll get issues like this. Go into your video settings in the bar and check to make sure you don't have it set for something your TV can't do. My TV, for example, won't do 720p.
