Removing agitator My husband left a computor memory stick in his pants pocket and ran them through our Kenmore top loading washing machine.  We believe the memory stick is under the agitator.  How do we remove the agitator and/or is there someplace else it could be stuck. Ann my duvet cover is stuck under the agitator. I have a White--Westinghouse stackable full load washer/dryer. model # MLXE / MLXG42RB ( not sure which # is for dryer or washer....) serial # XE53444330. Can I possibly do this myself I really do not have money for paying a repair man to come out!!! Help me cookie4metoo@yahoo.com

Sorry, I can't help you. This is the area for asking questions about computer monitors, not washing machines. You clicked the wrong link.
Look at the top of the page, click the Westinghouse link and then on washing machine. Enter your question there.

Agitator moving just a little.

If it is a Whirlpool or Kenmore make washer you probably stripped the "dog ears" in the agitator. They give you the duel agitation that makes your clothes cycle from top to bottom of the machine. Should only rin you around $8.00 or so. Hope that helps.

I got the strings of my sweat pants stuck under the agitator of my old Hotpoint washing machines. How can I remove the agitator to untangle it?

At the top of the agitator has a cap get a flat screw driver and pry up and turn. When it comes off there is a nut you have to take off. Then pull up on the agitator..

Remove the agitator

The agitator is actually pressed on without mechanical fasteners . Grab the bottom of the agitator firmly on each side. Pull up with a quick, hard **** (careful not to hit your face). If this does not work, wrap a belt under the agitator. Grab the belt firmly and pull up with a quick, hard ****.

Removing agitator

Sometimes small articles of clothing can manage to get between the inner spin basket and outer wash tub. This is NOT common, however. If this were the case the memory stick you mentioned, would end up lodged in the drain pump. There would be a noticeable noise from the impeller hitting it and it may cause the pump to fail, resulting in drainage problems. More than likely, its right where you suspect it is. To remove the agitator, do the following:

1. Remove the center cap or dispenser from the agitator.
2. Under the cap or dispenser is another plastic cap with a pull handle on it. Lift this cap out by pulling straight up, exposing the agitator mounting bolt.
3. Loosen the agitator bolt using a socket and ratchet. Once removed, grasp the entire agitator assembly by the bottom flanges and lift straight up. The entire agitator should come out.

NOTE: When reinstalling the agitator make sure you DO NOT overtighten the mounting bolt or it can cause damage to the agitator and restrict the movement. Good and "snug" is the rule of thumb.

Searspartsdirect.com has an excellent exploded view diagram of your agitator and components if you need a good reference. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and look under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub Parts" heading.

I hope you find what you're looking for and hope this helps you in some way. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

Drawstring tangled under agitator on an older GE washing machine.

You should be able to unscrew the top cap of the agitator ( may be left hand thread ) and lift off the agitator once the cap is off... They sometimes stick so you may have to muscle it to remove that cap..once lifted off..you should be able to untangle the string that is caught..
