If you unplug the power adapter, take out the battery, open the memory cover, un plug the RTC battery, press the power on button to disipate any voltage, re-install cable for RTC battery, put memory cover back on, battery back in, power adapter plug back in, boot up, cmos checksum error enter set-up utility, set date, time etc.

you need to first check if the battery is bad or the system has a proble in that case uodate your bios which plays a major role in battery charging and controling.
open the link below and select the correct model and then download the bios software

Can't remember my password on hp 6000 computer how

Are you talking about the BIOS password, or the windows password?
A hard reset will probably reset your BIOS password (see this thread),

To reset your windows password, you need your XP CD-ROM and follow this instruction.

How do i remove bios password on my hp 6730s?

On HP DV6000 series laptops, to clear the BIOS password, find the Cmos Battery (or RTC battery) and disconnect it from the motherboard for at least 10 minutes. This will clear the CMOS and clear the passwords. This is straight from the service manual. Once the time is over reconnect the battery and power the system back up, make sure you go right into the BIOS and reset the date and time. This is usually accomplished by striking the delete key or the F2 key during the HP splash screen.

hI,

You need to reset your bios, this will erase all your cmos data, incluiding your password. You nned to locate and remove cmos battery, in this model you will find the battery below your laptop, you nned to remove your back doors, locate your battery wich it is connected thru a little white conenctor to your Mobo, disconect, turn on your laptop, press f10 and this will go to your bios, remove all pass word in your security menu, turn off your laptop and reconnect your cmos battery, you will need to setup your dates corrctly.

This will resolve your issue

A BIOS password reset can fix this issue. You may request HP support for a BIOS password reset. They may need to request for a system ID or the error you are getting when you enter the BIOS password.

There is option in BIOS called something about automated SATA recognition or similar - disable it. It is under System configuration. And if you are putting new drive in then run full test from BIOS (Hard drive selftest - takes about 79min.)
I tried to reinstall Windows Media center on my HP dv6000 because my previous hdd crashed - When I put in installation cd - it said that it can't find hdd. I spent week to figuring that out. The thing is - as far as you haven't disabled that SATA thing in BIOS - PC doesn't recognize hdd. But only with Windows media center edition. With all other windows xp - there is no such problems. Strange.
