My washing machine goes through the wash cycle but when it gets to the rinse cycle it stops and no matter what I do it will not go any further. What could be the problem?

The machine is a centrex CTW60560A. It doesnt drain, I have tried different cycles and still wont go past the rinse, I can hear the motor trying to click onto the next cycle but then it just has a dull hum and nothing happens, I don't smell anything.

Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? .......... Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines......... The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub. The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers. Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem. Will it drain???? Have you tried a different cycle??? Can you hear the motor???? Do you smell / hear anything different???

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

There is a water level sensor in the tube and it might be plugged. IT could also be the load selector or the control module.

Your motor is getting overheated in wash cycle. if you turn it off for about 15 minutes and start it back up in rinse cycle will it work ? If yes, then motor is overheated. A sign that the motor is over working its self and time for a new motor.

Washer stop in middle of rinse cycle

All content © 2000 © 2009 Washerhelp
> Home / Repairs DIY washing machine advice (part 8) Washing machine sticks or stops mid-cycle repairs-sm.gif A very common fault on washing machines is when the program timer fails to complete the cycle and stops part way through. Many people blame the program timer for this but although it is a possible cause, there are many more likely causes for this fault. The program will stick if the heater isn't working, if the thermostat fails, if it can't fill up with cold water for the rinses, if it can't empty the water etc. There are too many possible causes of this fault to be able to give anything other than rudimentary advice. However, the common causes of a washing machine sticking that can easily be fixed are filling and emptying problems.
Check that the cold water supply is available to the washing machine, which is a common cause for sticking on rinses. If the washing machine appears to stop mid-cycle and isn't filling with water on rinses then see Washing machine won't fill with water (or no water goes into washing machine) before calling an engineer. If the washing machine can't drain the water out then it will stick on the rinses, or it will abort with an error code. If you can see water still inside the washing machine then check the following advice Washing machine won't empty water

Bosch classixx 1000 washing machine - stops on spin

Washing machine stops at the spin cycle - light flashes. Have to drain water out manually. Happened last week and was then able to run an empty rinse cycle. Machine worked normally for another week. Same problem today but have had to drain water manually from the drum after trying an empty 90 wash and rinse cycle (both stopped on the Spin and flashed). Any ideas? Thanks. x

Door unlocks and won't spin or drain

it sounds like a clogged filter
Please remove the filter on the side of the machine or the front.
Make sure you have towels handy.
Clear the filter out. If your pump cant empty the machine out you will get these problems
Make sure waterline is not obstructed
