Question about Husqvarna 28cc Gas Line Trimmer

3 Answers

I HAVE A 125L HUSQVARNA TRIMMER. THE RECOIL STARTER WAS FINE, THEN STARTED MAKING A RATCHETING SOUND SOME OF THE TIME BUT WOULD NOT PULL THE ENGINE THROUGH AND START IT OTHER TIMES, NOW IT MAKES THE RATCHETING SOUND ALL THE TIME AND WON'T TURN OVER OR START THE ENGINE. I HAVE THE STARTER HOUSING OFF BUT IT LOOKS LIKE 2 POSSIBLE NYLON SPRING LOADED PIECES COULD BE WHAT'S CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I'D LIKE TO CONFIRM THAT B4 ORDERING THE PART. I'M LOOKING AT THE PARTS DIAGRAM AND IT DOESN'T SHOW THESE TWO NYLON NUBS THAT SEEM TO CAUSE THE STARTER TO ENGAGE THE ENGINE AFTER THE STARTER ROPE IS ALLOWED BACK INTO THE STARTER ASSEMBLY.

Actually, there are two solutions, did not see the two nubs on parts diagram either but I have done some extensive research and the nubs come with the cup assembly. One solution is to go to partstree.com and order part # 545102303 or part # 545180844. Both come with the white plastic nubs and springs. Also, what I did with mine if you are tech savy is cut off the stem that goes through the black cup, drill an 1/8th in hole through the bottom of the plastic nub and then assemble nub and spring and secure putting a screw through the hole in the bottom of the black cup, securing the nub. All you are doing is replacing the part of the nub that goes through the plastic cup with a screw. You are pre drilling the hole in the nub so you dont crack the nub with the screw. Make sure the screw is straight so you dont get too close to the edges or it will crack. This method takes crafty hands and good eyesight. If done correctly, they will never pop out again. Promise!

Ya, that sounds like the 2 nylon "nubs" pop out and engage the crank/wheel on a "pull" to grab the crank to spin, then drop backout of the way of the spinning (now running) engine. They are usually spring loaded, and delicate! Try simply Googleing your model number and brand. Husqvarna's site will have all you'll need to know. (As well as many other sites. like exploded diagrams with part numbers) if rubbed out or worn down, (even a tiny bit! They become pretty useless) replacement is the only way. Try Here. Copy and paste into your browser's address bar.

Ya its integral to the part as a unit. There is no solution but replacement on a part like that. Unless you are nuts like me and have access to a mini lathe and milling machine and try to repair or fabricate something that works. But most of those parts are either injection molded or milled out with a computer controlled mill. And trust me its cheaper to just replace it. They are very complicated, but mass production allows "set up" to make many all at once, with extra pieces for part stocks after production is over on whatever specific model. Husquvarna has your part.

Hi there. Firstly remove the end with the starter cord and make sure the fly wheel is opening when you pull the cord. If not lubricate it until it frees. If it is working then it could be just the carb gaskets need replacing or the worst case is that the piston is broke and may need sorting.

Spool won't turn when trimmer is turned on?

Has the engine siezed or does it still pull over.? If it still pulls over, its probably a recoil starter issue.

My Husqvarna 125L trimmer makes a terrible grinding sound and vibration along the shaft. What is this?

Could be a damaged bearing in the gear head, could be a bent drive shaft or outer drive tube, clutch drum may have worn the
engine housing and spinning off centre.

I have having problem with my Hysqvaran 125L with the pull cord. When i pulls cord, it not catching the trans and it sound like the spring is not catching?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

It sounds like the starter cup has failed / broken. See this link: (Page 3 item 14.)
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/HIPL/HIPL2008/HIPL2008_5450143-15.pdf

However... the pawls on the starter pulley (item 28 above) may have broken.

There is a whole kit for repairing the starter recoil: PN 545180844
That can be found here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HUSQVARNA-RECOIL-STARTER-KIT-124L-125L-128L-545180844-/150485511147

Your need to remove the starter recoil assy and check for damage. It will be obvious. Just remove the mounting screws and lift it off. It is not difficult. Use the first link page 3 to identify the parts you may need once you do the visual inspection with the recoil removed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

If the engine is a concern, run a compression check. All you will need for this test is a compression tester (small engine) and to remove the spark plug. It should be at least 90psi or above as I recall. A lot of times, people have "scored" their engines and they don't know it.. I don't suspect that is your problem. Compression test is a real good indicator of your internal engine's condition.

Have had same problem. This is a very old post so this is for those who have this problem. It is part 15 from the link given up there. WARNING I AM NOT A MECHANIC OR WELL VERSED!!What happens when you pull the handle is two starter couplings(plastic) engage the shaft that engages the engine. When it starts these fall free and allow the engine to spin freely. When they break the engine isn't harmed. You need a star head screw driver and NOT a phillips. Just he two on either side of the starter cup. Don't think you need to take off all 8 or more screws. Just the two. Pull out the other coupling. They just pop in. Buy 2 new ones. The other one is probably compromised anyways. Husqvarna 530059800
Coupling-Starter. Not a very involved process at all. Two screws. Pull off cup. pull out white plastic couplings. Put in new ones. Put the cup and screws back on.

Husqvarna 125r wont start. has spark, compression, air filter and exhust checked. could it be the timing? if so how do you adjust?

Pull spark plug out. Pull cover from recoil starter. Pull recoil starter. Inspect flywheel mag's for cleanliness. Then turn engine over untill piston is topped out. Your manets and pick up should be lined up to eachother at this point. If they are not, pull nut and or bolts from flywheel and remove to check for damaged key-way or woodruff key that aligns flywheel to crank. That is the only timing.
