For the price of the rebuild on the Carbs - Ask the dealer to send a mechanic out to some close water. Believe me if he is reputable he will do it to check his work. Sound strangely like float issue or even needle and seat. Being as there are two or more carbs it could be an intake issue. Have you tried spraying WD40 around the intake during this bogging down? It can be the fire coming from ignition. Have you double checked the coils? I prefer you try these things and then comment back at me so I can follow up with something else. As you know it can be something simple but to have had the boat in the shop and get it back with the same exact problem is ignorant on their part. Have you taken the boat back to them? They do not sound too good to me as I would be 100% sure the problem was gone before returning the boat. I hope this helps - Please vote me as helpful - it makes a real difference. I will stay with you on this but we do ourselves a disservice if we ignore the fact the carbs make the most sense and yet they said they were rebuilt and the problem doesn't change one little bit- I suspect you will notice a big difference if when this happens - you spray WD40 in to the intake - and around it - - it will run much stronger - and that means again it is the carbs. Let me know something ok? Gary

Engine runs idles great slow speed until throttle up then shuts down

Depending on where you are, you could be getting carbeurettor ice. It's rare, but has happened to me with a 35hp outboard in early morning when temp was just above freezing but humidity was high.

What could be my problem with two items one is my motor cannot get on plane and two my power tilt makes a racheting sound.

the first item is there is insufficient fuel supply for full power
if a carby machine then have the carby fully overhauled by an accredited shop, replace all rubber fuel lines, filters and recondition the fuel pump
if efi then check pump pressure , replace all rubber fuel lines
noisy tilt rams may be low oil in the hydraulics, water in the hydraulics or sucking air in the pump or jamming /rusted rams or rusted pivot bushes for the motor mounts lack of use will contribute to most problems as things corrode and rot

My 88hp Johnson won't tilt up when moving in water unless I am going slow therefore I can't get topend speed what would cause this?

outboard motors some times are designed to not run at speed while tilted as the water pump inlet is above the water line and the engine will over heat and the pump impellor will be destroyed.. With an engine tilted the load from the propeller tends to lift the nose of the boat high and makes it unstable on the water . The best situation is to have the propeller tend to drive the nose down thereby promoting a planeing action that improves economy and speed Once the boat is on the plane you can cut back on the throttle and still maintain the same speed . Moving with the leg tilted should only be used to navigate shallow water at very slow speeds

Johnson 40hp- won't idle or troll at high elevations

Depending on the year model you may be able to adjust the mixture leaner for higher altitude. That adjustment was traditionally out of the very top of the carb pointing straight at you. Screw it in(gently- it's not a wood screw). Then out 1/2 turn at altitude.

Is there any way to modify in order to get more power/thrust out of a mk 30lb other than stock? or can you take a moto guide 80 lb., bow mount foot control, shaft and motor and combine it with transom...

Hey Chris,, you are starting a project (or wanting to) that is going to be problematic... It will be easier to go buy a new trolling motor with the money you are going to spend attempting this conversion... the newer trolling motors are so much more efficient...

1974 johnson outboard motor 25hp stalls when hiting high end

Not familiar with that specific motor but had similar vintage smaller HP Johnsons. From my experience it sounds like it could be that the high speed carb adjustment is too lean. What I would try is running the backing off the high speed screw 1/4 turn to 3/4 turn, then test. If works better, screw back in in 1/8 turn increments until the problem recurs, then back out 1/4 turn and leave it there.

Outboard motor won't run under load

I have 1969 5hp Johnson. Starts and runs good, but will only push a 14ft row boat slow at low to medium rpm. When at higher rpm the the motor just revs up and the boat slows down to almost nothing just like it has seaweed around prop.Any help would be great.
