I don't have the installation cd but when i plug in the usb cord a wizard message pops up saying "found new hardware" but when trying to go thru the wizard it will not install it because it states that it was unable to find the hardware. Will i have to have the installation cd or is there a way i can install the printer without it???

unplug the printer, right click on the 4200series an click uninstall. Once uninstalled, reboot. Once the PC is on again plug in the printer. You should hear the ding that a devise was plugged in and the little bubble will pop up saying installing new device. It should find the driver and install, but if not have your printer CD ready to insert. If asked for the driver say "have disk" and open the CD rom to the driver directory or just tell it to search for the driver.
connect the printer to the laptop via usb , power it ON. Then it will show a found new hardware message, then insert the printer driver CD, it will automatically install the driver and you're done. You can use the printer with the laptop.
Dont plug that printer into your computer without first installing the software. The drivers for that printer can be found at lexmark.com, then choose "Drivers and Downloads" on the top bar. Then type in your printer model number, and choose your operating system. After the installation is complete, you can plug your printer in, and it should find the drivers automaticly.
Unplug printer USB from computer. Chose OS version and download the driver. After downloading run installer file, this will start printer setup wizard. Connect printer back when required from setup wizard.
