You have too small a cord on it if it's heating up and then popping your breaker. The a/c has am amp rating on it's data tag, read it and then read the amp capacity of your breaker and the cord your using. If the a/c draws more than 80% of the rated amps for the cord and breaker then you need to find another way to power it up with a bigger cord and a bigger outlet. DO NOT just install a bigger breaker, it is sized for the wiring in your home and a bigger amp draw on that wiring could burn your house down.

I need to replace the power cord on my Whirlpool air conditioner - part # PS318855. The Whirlpool replacement parts website says the part is discontinued. Is there a comparable one I can replace it with?

Hi!!
If you need to replace the cord because the plug is messed up, just get a 20A - 30A UL rated plug at Home Depot or any Hardware store.
If for some reason, you need to replace the whole thing, you can also get the cord with the same UL rating at the Hardware Store, they may have one already made. the only thing you need to do is install a female insulated electrical connection on the two main wires and a round terminal for the green wire and you'll be all set. You can even ask the associate to install the terminals for you.
Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

If it's the cord, It should have a plug on it unless someone cut it off.which some people do to hardwire into an outlet. There should be three wires inside an outer cover of rubber. Black, white ,and green. If so, that should be the power cord. You may have to install a new three pronged plug. Good Luck.

I have a window air conditioner that will not work. Ihave power from the outlet because I tested it with a tester.what are some possible solutions

  1. Has it ever worked before? It could be a manufacturer's defect.
  2. Make sure the power supply is firmly connected to the air conditioner.
  3. Try using a new power cord (if possible)
These are the first 3 things that I would try. How old is the air conditioner? If you are still under warranty, try calling the manufacturer.

Good luck!
