Hi, see directions below..

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

this should help you....let me know if you need more help or info

Ill assume you have either a 31XX, 4XXX model since those are the ones that are alittle harder to get apart then any other Magellan. Read below what I have replied to others with this question.

You have to be careful taking them apart or youll Break the power port and the head phone port right of the board And it will probably screw the board up. had a few were ppl tried to Take them apart the wrong way and broke the tracers right off the board (now there junk)

Note: always start on the side opposite the power port

Anyway, after the screws are out, use your finger nail if you can,(that's what I use) if not get yourself a very small flat screw Driver (jeweler type) and starting from the side opposite the power port (pictures below) and Head phone port (start on the side the power BUTTON is on, starting at the bottom, Slip it along the seam where the front and back of the case Meet, but don't force it down inside the 2 halfs, you want to just put the blade In far enough so it slides along the seem and that its is separating the 2 just enough to unlock the tabs from Each other see the pics There are 6 taps to break free..2 on the top, 2 on the bottom and 1 on each side....don't worry about the on on the port side. Just tip the back of the case upward and that side will come free on its own. When you put it back together, the port side goes in 1st. Tip the rear of the case up and slide it in under the ports and then lay the back down on to the front half and it will snap together.

My magellan crossover gps keeps shutting off in navigation mode - why?

make sure its charging..plug it in to a known good charger..go to the main menu, then systems options then power the power bar on the bottom should be moving from left to right..if its not, its probably the dc power port

If your GPS is not charging, the following models are known to have faulty power ports.

Magellan Maestro or Roadmate..800 860 2000 2200t 2500 3000 3050
3100 3140 4000 4040 4050 6000t

you can buy a power port HERE

or get it repaired HERE

this is a very common problem with these magellan 3140 and als the 3100,2000,2200t,2500,4000,4040 and the 4050most likely the power port is damaged and needs replaced.i have these power ports but often they just need re soldered..i can repair these magellan gps if you need help. if i cant fix it there is no charge.wmetz@comcast.net ...to open the case on a 4040 you must start on the power button side, otherwise youll break the unit
