Whirlpool refrigerator (top mount freezer) model ET8FTKXKQ00
My refrigerator and freezer temp dropped overnight. The fan is running. It is auto-defrost. I cleaned the coils which are located on the bottom--they were very dirty. I let it sit for 2 days and turned it back on--it started to cool at first, but then the air that the fan was blowing turned warm within a few minutes and I am hearing a repeated clicking noise. The frig is approx 6 yrs old, so I am wondering whether or not to just replace it or try to correct the problem--any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Whirlpool refrigerator (top mount freezer) model...
I feel sure you will find the compressor start relay is probably bad unless it is a Frigidaire manufactured refrigerator. If it is a Frigidaire then if may very well be a bad compressor.
I hope I have helped, supertechks

Sorry your having trouble so soon!
First thing you need to check is inside the freezer section.
The freezer fan, the fan is W10128551 and should be running
along with the main compressor. Since the freezer is working,
I would check the food on the top drawer or on the freezer door shelf.
They too might be soft..without the fan.
I would You tube 'evaporator fan motor replacement Amana bottom freezer model' Yes I know it say's Whirlpool, but your unit is really
a Amana designed unit. I would give this a difficulty of 3 out 5 wrenches.. Take your time..
Meat is always more dense than frozen dairy product. This soft ice cream issue usually occurs when the circulating fan becomes blocked due to overloading. Unlike a chest type freezer, top mounted freezers use a fan to circulate to the refrigerator. If the return vents to the freezer become blocked by too many small items, or loose plastic bags the compressor may run too long in an attempt to lower the refrigerator temp, This may cause the compressor to heat up and kick in the overload safety, further dropping the total temperature.
Assuming the freezer is adequately cool, it sounds like the freezer fan is not running. This fan transfers chilled air to the refrigerator section. The fan should be located behind an access plate in the freezer. If it's running, you should be able to hear it. If you can't hear it, remove the access plate and look at it. If it's not turning, you will need to replace the fan motor.
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper)
between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it.
Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it
to run. There is a flap you adjust with
the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust
the fridge temp. The problem could be the electronic control if
you have one or the mechanical linkages.
You need to look inside the freezer at the rear wall cover and see if it is frosted over. If your refrigerator is not defrosting that can cause the refrigerator side and the freezer side also not to cool to the desired temp.
