OK, that's good news. Care to suggest a couple of upgrade processors for my G4 based on your experience? Thanks.

  • foggy247 May 09, 2010

Thank you Gary. As I recall isn't there also the limitation of the bus speed of 133 MHz of the G4? I've been perfectly content with my G4 and Tiger until learning at the Apple Store the other day that the iPad requires Leopard for synchronization. So now may be shopping for a new Mac with Leopard. Oh well.

    Gary,
Your reply and comments are very helpful in my beginning to get up to speed with upgrading to Leopard. Thanks!

Yes - with no changes other than some drivers may need a work around. You can sure do it. I suggest you also consider upgrading the processor as you have more ram than processing memory. I have run the same configuration with no problems but found a faster processor really sped things up for me.
Best of luck with your project. Please let me know how it goes. with you comments. Please rate me as helpful - it makes my day. Gary Can I upgrade to MacOSX - 86f5d1e.gif

Just so you know - here is a comprehensive piece we did and also - the web based components are way pricey. Yes technically it can be done but appears to be a waste of money better spent on a newer pc and operating system. - - Here is the other - CLICK HERE

Best of it - let me know what you decide. Please RATE me Helpful - it really helps me.

Upgrade for a 2005 apple mac desktop tiger 10.4

The highest you can get up to is leopard 10.5. Unfortunately, after 10.5 Apple moved to Intel getting rid of the powermac processors.

Depending on your specs I would recommend sticking with tiger, but leopard should run fin on your powermac. It runs great on mine.

Hi Bobby
You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8

I have imac. and i want to change his operating

Yes it is very easy to do as you are running a Mac with Intel Processor. You have Mac OSx Leopard with updates 1,2, & 3. To upgrade to Mac OSx Snow Leopard you must buy the upgrade. Go here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/ On the top right click (Buy Now) You will have to pay $29 which is a bargain. Once you get the upgrade on CD simply follow the directions for the simple upgrade. I did the same thing when Snow Leopard came out. It is well worth the $29.

I got about 5 problems with my G4

You may have mean 1.5 GB of RAM. OK. YYpur problem may be your hard drive. It is not normal to take so long to load Tiger in a Mac 933 (It took less than 1 hour on a Mac G4/466 MHz).
