If your into DIY stuff, why not get some angle iron and attach it to inside with some shot bolts. You'll need to do some drilling, but it'll be cheaper than buying a new grill.

How much ceramic briquets should be used with this grill

You might try googling "flavorizer bars" and see if you can find the right length to fit your grill. Weber makes these for their gas grills, and they are much better than using lava rocks, ceramic briquettes or tiles. If the bars are too long, you can cut them down to size with a hacksaw. Well worth the extra work as they are far superior to the others.

I replaced the porcelain enameler flavorizer bars on my Weber genesis gas grll less than a year ago--four out of the five bars are bent and misshapen--no longer straight. Why??? They still look brand...

You are overheating the grill - make sure the thermometer is working on the right side of the grill lid. You should not heat above 550F (preheat) and you should not cook above 500F.

Secondly, you must clean out the drip tray (not just the aluminum foil tray but the bigger tray it is attached to (it slides out the front of the grill too). The grease that piles up on this tray can catch fire and overheat the grill (including the flavorizor bars).

Last suggestion is to get stainless steel bars next time (make sure you get the size that fits your grill because the stainless steel sizes also come a bit longer). The stainless bars are high temperature stainless steel and do not corrode. They are a bit heavier and cost about 30 to 50% more but well worth it. They clean up very easily and transfer heat to the cooking surface well. Keep them clean to keep the cooking surface hotter.

Weber Genesis Gold B Grill Problem

Could be partially clogged burner openings (jets).
Remove the cooking grates and the flavorizer bars. Obtain a BRASS brush (like used to clean white-wall tires) and brush the burner tubes from side to side and up and down along their entire length to remove all corrosion from the jets. Also the cross-over tube.
Before replacing the flavorizer bars and cooking grates, ignite all burner tubes and check to see the flames are all of about equal length and intensity.
If this isn't the problem, check the screens at the right-side ends of the burner tubes to be sure they're not clogged.
If the burner tubes are all clean and some don't ever ignite, the problem could be in the valves/manifold.
