You can wipe out the old code and start from scratch. Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near all those white wires. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to your keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter. Your keypad may have just quit working though.

How do I reset my keypads outside? My battery

There is no reset. You can try programming it and see if that works. If not it is probably dead.

On the rear of the motor unit you will find the smart/learn button. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to your keypad and key in your four digit code and press enter.

Remotes quit working on Craftsman 53975 garage

It sounds like you have a logic board problem. If your remotes work at all it is not a programming problem. You could pull the logic board and check for loose connections especially around the small transformer. 18 years for an opener is very lucky. Their average life is about 1/2 that.

OLD garage door opener

Sounds like you have the keypad that is hardwired.

To program the keypad, first unplug the garage door opener from the electrical outlet. Next, remove the nameplate from the console that the keypad plugs into and locate the program/operate switch. Flip the switch to program. Next, enter your desired four-digit PIN into the keypad. Slide the switch back to operate and plug the garage door opener back in. The keypad should be programmed.

These instructions may not work if the keypad is some other manufacturers.

My outside Craftsman keypad will not open the door but will close it.

Most likely if the opener will close the door, but not open it, the springs are fatigued enough to where the opener is exceeding the force limits established. If the door is really heavy the opener will not open it as a safety precaution.

The keypad is probably fine, but you need to have a professional garage door repair technician come out and take a look at the garage door hardware! Repeat: Do not work on the springs yourself!

If I am correct, there is a green button on the opener. Hold that down until it stop blinki ng. Once it has, pres the opener. It should read the code and work the next time you hit the opener remote.
If not, sorry. This has worked for me
