Question about Finis Swi MP3 Player

1 Answer

Finis SwimP3 charging but not listed on removable disk drive.

I have my Finis SwimP3 plugged into my USB 2.0 port. It is flashing, so that tells me it is charging. However, nothing shows up in My Computer, in the Removable Disk F (where it is plugged in). It says the file is empty (as do all other ports). Any idea why and how I access my SwimP3? In the Properties tab of the Removable Device F, it says that it is plugged into an unsupportable interface (under Ready Boost).
Any ideas? Thanks...received it this morning as a Mother's Day gift and anxious to hit the pool!! Cyn

Generally the computer should recognize the Swimp3 Player just like it would a flash drive or thumb drive. Remove the drive from your USB Port, press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds and then try again.

That will usually clear up any hiccups you're having with the swimp3 player.

Plug it back in and look in My Computer again. On my Windows PC with XP it pops up and asks what I want to do with the drive.

After Resetting, you may also want to try it on a second computer to see if it is recognized. If it isn't working then, it could be the electronics, and your gift giver can check with the place where it was purchased.

I hope this helps.

    Had the same problem , tried all the above, no joy, told it may be a usb lead problem, changed three leads, still nothing, last resort squirted WD40 onto connections, left for 30 mins to soak, blow dried with hairdryer RESULT, now working fine. Can only think dust or sand/salt from sea blocking a connection

How do you fix a Finis swimp3 1 gb not recognized by the computer

There are a couple reason why a SwiMp3 1g will stop recognizing on your computer. Below are some things to look for and tips to try to get your unit working correctly again.
First, pull the cap of the USB and check if there are any signs of corrosion occurring on connection. If so, it is easily removed and prevented from happening again. Once the corrosion is safely removed off the USB your unit will recognize in your computer and charge correctly again.To remove corrosion try running HOT water over the USB. Scrub with a toothbrush, pick with your nail or a butter knife ect. Also, if the hot water does not work you can also try rubbing alcohol. Once most of the corrosion is off, the unit should charge and connect properly.Corrosion is actually caused from moisture and chlorine not the actual water so a way to prevent corrosion from happening again is to run fresh water over the USB and pat dry after each swim.
If the SwiMp3 is a 2g (yellow and black) contact Finis technical support for the firmware links and instructions to fix this issue. Also, you can visit and create a support ticket regards to your product or review walk-through tips on the product. Thank you,

Since I do not keep my computer on for long periods what kind of charger can I use for the Finis swimp3 player. Will a charger used for my blackberry 5v 1a be ok? Thank you. Sid

Yes you can, the USB cable is used for transferring music files to the MP3 player as well as charging the MP3 player. If your Blackberry charger has a USB socket that the MP3 player can plug into, then it will charge the MP3 player.

I charged my swimP3 but it won't turn on when disconnected from the computer.

The Swimp3 Player does need to be charged for at least 3 hours for the best experience. Here are some tips that could help solve your problem:

Problem: The player doesn't turn on.

Suggestion: Charge the battery in the player for at least three hours, this will allow it to fully charge. You can charge it by plugging it into the USB port on your computer or by using a USB wall charger (sold separately). If you do choose to use a computer to charge it, be sure your computer is turned on. If there is no power to the computer, then no power is going to the USB port to charge the Swimp3 player.

Additional Tip: The charging answers are in the Green Indicator Light.

If the green light is flashing off and on, then your SwiMP3 player is charging

If the light is solid green, the SwiMP3 player is fully charged

If you have no green light - then it is not receiving a charge - check the connection, make sure its plugged in properly, or check to see that there is power from the computer or USB wall charger.

Problem: I have charged my player, the light is solid green, but no music plays.

Suggestion 1: Have you loaded music onto the player? Try adding a few mp3 or wma files and test it again.

Suggestion 2: If the power is on, you loaded music, clicked the Play button and no music comes out, press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds. It's kind of like rebooting your computer when it crashes. Many times a simple reset clears up any challenges.

If that doesn't work, then it could be the

* volume

* incompatible files or

* folders

Volume: On some units the factory volume setting is very low.

Solution: Try turning up the volume by pressing and holding the "+" PLUS button. If you click the "+" button it changes the song, pressing and holding the button will actually control the volume. And if its too loud, press and hold the "-" MINUS button to bring the volume back down.

Incompatible Music Files: If you have loaded a music file that is not compatible, it simply won't play. The SwiMP3 player works with mp3 or wma files, but not aac (like from iTunes).

Solution: Remove the incompatible files. Convert your other music files to mp3 or wma, and if you are importing your songs direct from itunes, you'll need to convert them to mp3s first.

Incompatible NON-Music Files: An MP3 player is similar to a Thumb Drive or Flash Drive because it can hold any kind of file that will fit in the drive's capacity. However, if you have loaded an incompatible file - including JPEGs, Cover Art, Word Docs, anything that is not an MP3 or WMA file, the player simply can't translate it into music.

Solution: Remove the incompatible files, leaving only your mp3 or wma files in your root directory.

Folders: The mp3 player is not able to open folders and play music files stored inside, to the Swimp3 player the folder is simply an un-playable file.

Solution: Open the folders, move or copy the music files into the root directory (remember, mp3 or wma - not aac), then delete the folders.

I plug in my player into the USB port, nothing light

If you get no light at all, it could be that the Swimp3 Player isn't plugged in properly. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in.

If you're plugging into a USB Hub, be sure the hub is on.

Depending on the Model of the Swimp3 - one of the older models would allow you to plug the USB in upside down - newer models do not. So I would also verify that.

The next step would be to press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds - most other hiccups are cleared up with that.

If those steps don't work, I would contact the retailer where you made the purchase - your Finis player comes with a 90 day manufacturers warranty.

Good Luck

SwiMP3 was not safely removed and now it is not recognized

Turn off CPU, Unplug Power cable, And all usb devices, let it sit for about 20mins. Plug it all back in. Turn on the CPU! Also make sure if your device requires "DRIVERS" or if you have a CD download and install that before anything.

Got to help with computer

  1. Connect the USB cable to the back side of the device
  2. Connection the USB side of the cable into the USB port on your computer
  3. If you are using a Windows PC, you can locate your swimp3 drive in 'My Computer'
  4. If you are using a MAC, you will see a new icon appear on your desktop 'NO NAME'
  5. If you have MP3s on your computer you can drag and drop files onto your swimp3 drive
Once you have all the songs loaded onto your device, eject your device and enjoy listening to music underwater.

USB connector problem

It shouldn't be a problem. Check the SwimP3 V2 FAQ website. It says:

Q: The cap that covers the USB port on my SwiMP3 came off during my swim, will this damage my player? A: No, the SwiMP3's USB port is completely waterproof, the cap is there to keep the USB port generally dry so you wont have to dry it by hand before connecting it to your computer.
