How to reboot a colored apple imac computer

A normal restart only requires you to press the re-start button on the back of the CPU or on the front. You should hear the chime, the screen will come up and you will be taken to the Mac start-up screen (different OS will have different looking screens).
If the Imac has shut down suddenly or prematurely, you might not hear the chime but will see a grey screen with a status bar. Eventually you will see the normal Mac screen and your icons will slowly reappear.
If you do not get any start-up screen or any chime, unplug the unit, remove all peripherals ( such as USB cables etc) and leave it sit overnight. I have restored "dead" Macs by that simple technique.
If you see a screen but the Imac still won't boot, insert the restore disc, hold down the "C" key and restart from the disk. Or use disk warrior and start the same way. Disk Warrior will diagnose and repair problems with your OS.
If none of these strategies work, you may have internal component problems with your Imac that will require more expert repairs.

My computer starts up and you hear the chime andthe little led lighton the bottom right lights up and stays solid but the screen remains black. i still hear sounds from the mac but i still have a black...

If the light stays solid for as long as you have it on then I would say that the logic board is dead. I would not bother fixing it, a new logic board costs almost as much as your computer on ebay used. If you still prefer to replace it yourself here is a link to the logic board and here is a guide to replace it.
However, if the light comes on and then goes off it is probably the screen.Guide Part.

I forgot my password for my imac, and i dont have the disk?

Reset 10.5 Leopard & 10.6 Snow Leopard password
  1. Power on or restart your Mac.
  2. At the chime (or grey screen if your chime is turned off), hold down Command+S on your keyboard to enter single-user mode.
  3. Type mount -uw / and press Enter.
  4. Type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ and press Enter.
  5. Type ls /Users and press Enter. This lists all of the usernames on the computer - helpful if you don't know or remember what these are.
  6. Type dscl . -passwd /Users/username password and replace "username" with one of the users displayed in the previous step. Replace "password" with a new password of your choice. Press Enter.
  7. Type reboot and press Enter.
Reset 10.4 Tiger password
  1. Power on or restart your Mac.
  2. At the chime (or grey screen if your chime is turned off), hold down Command+S on your keyboard to enter single-user mode.
  3. Type sh /etc/rc and press Enter/Return.
  4. Type passwd username and replace "username" with the short name of the user account for which you'd like to reset the password.
  5. Type your desired password and press Enter. It won't show itself on the screen, so be careful what you type. You will most likely have to enter it again to confirm.
  6. Type reboot and press Enter.

No chime no fan no screen on Imac G4 17', even after reset of the PMU

Could be a problem with the logic board. If you have Applecare, take it to an Apple store and they might be able to fix it. Otherwise, it may be dead.

My daughter was installing a game on the mac and i don't know what she pressed, that now when we turn the computer on, a black screen with lots of words and symbols shows up, and we cannot move passed that...

It sounds like Verbose Startup. Try to reset the P RAM:

Hold down four keys, P + R + Command +Option and turn it on, it will reboot. Let go of the keys after you hear the second chime.
This should clear the white on black, but you may have a boot problem as well if your system isn't coming up all the way. This may require a software reload.

Whenever I turn on my desktop the screen just stays black.

It appears that your power supply is good, the startup chime says that the system board has passed self diagnostics. If you have a black screen then the problem is either the video card or the screen itself. Unfortunately it is very difficult to tell which one. You might try to use an external monitor. If it works, then the problem is with the LCD.
To use an external monitor you need a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, or a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter if your display will use a DVI connection. Either adapter is available at any Apple retailer. The connector on the back of your Imac is next to the ethernet connector, and should be the last in the row.
