Question about GE 32GT740 32" TV

3 Answers

Somehow the picture size on the tv got changed - it is too wide for the picture tube area. Is there a way to reset it so it fits in the viewing area as it should? We are using cable, no box - standard 4;3 size.

It was working fine until my nephew started playing with the remote and enlarged the picture. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a clue as to what he did.

Hi,
Have you tried a different source like a DVD player, etc. This could be a problem with the tv itself. If there is no box then it should be coming in standard 4:3 size. I would consider replacing the tv. You can go on craigslist.com and find very nice tube tv's for quite cheap. I got a top of the line sony tube tv for a 100$. Much better to me then spending 500+ on a new tv.
Thank you,
Lee

In the menu options should be a reset for the screen. If that does not work there should be a setup for changing the size of the screen.

This TV may not have a Zoom or Wide feature, most 4:3 tube TVs do not. It sounds like you have a High Voltage or Deflection problem.

Ok, try this... press the menu button. Does the menu look normal or too big?

No, your missing what I am asking. If you press the menu button on the TV remote control, does the TV menu look as if it is too big or does it look normal size?

Picture doesn't fit screen. A 1-1/2 inch wide band on top and bottom of screen. Have tried the picture button on remote but it only gives me options ie: Panoramic, standard, wide etc. Nothing seems to

Many units will self adjust the image size, but the size of the image you will see depends on what size it was originally recorded in. You can change it in the settings of the TV but most likely it will not go bigger if it was shot smaller.

The score on football games on fox and cbs are halfway off the screen. How do I fix this?

Hello

It is likely that you have the "picture size" set to a mode that does not match what the channel is actually providing.

Go to the Menu options on your TV and then look for the Picture options. Change the size between the different options (typically 16:9, 4:3, Wide, Fit to Screen, etc.) and see which mode works best for the Fox and CBS broadcasts.

It is likely you have the TV set to Wide or Fit to Screen. Both change the settings to make 4:3 broadcasts fill the screen of a wide screen TV. Changing this to 16:9 should allow you to see the information on the sides and bottom of the screen again.

Sounds as though your screen is in zoom mode. Have a look on the remote for an option button like "aspect" or 16:9/4:3

Wide vertical bands of color through the viewing area. The sound is fine

One of your "X" buffer boards is defective. In Panasonic plasma tv's they are located at the bootom of the set and connect directly to the plasma diplay panel via a thin ribbon cable. The board you want to replace will be directly in line with the discolored vertival line in the picture. The part number is on the circuit board and usualy starts with "tnp..." or "txp..."

I have a T5054 TV and the picture has zoomed in and is way too big, however in the picture settings menu the zoom option is not highlighted in Component mode.

There could be a problem, but verify the settings as listed in the owner's manual as follows:

1 Press the MENU button to display the menu.
Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Picture, then press the ENTER button.
2 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Size, then press the ENTER button.
3 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the screen format you want.
Press the ENTER button.
Press the EXIT button to exit.
16:9 : Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
Zoom1 : Magnifies the size of the picture on the screen.
Zoom2 : Expands the Zoom1 format picture.
Wide Fit : Enlarges the aspect ratio of the picture to fit the entire screen.
4:3 : Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode.
Just Scan : Use this function to see the full image without any cutoff when DTV
or HDMI 720p/1080i signals are input.
Press the P.SIZE button on the remote control to change the picture size.

And realize the restrictions as listed:

• In TV, VIDEO, S-VIDEO, and COMPONENT(480i, 480p) modes, all screen
modes can be selected. (16:9 ➞ Zoom1 ➞ Zoom2 ➞ 4:3)
• In COMPONENT(720p, 1080i) or HDMI(720p, 1080i) mode, 16:9, 4:3 and
Wide Fit can be selected.
• In Zoom1, Zoom2 and Wide Fit modes, you can move the picture on the
screen by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button.
•You can not change the picture size when PIP is set to Double.
•When Double ( , ) mode has been set in PIP, the Picture Size cannot
be set.
•Wide Fit can be used when watching a Digital HD (High Definition) signal.
Wide Fit sets the optimum picture format by expanding it both horizontally and
vertically. For example, you can reset the picture in 4:3 format to 16:9. Wide Fit
does not support all external devices (DVD, VCR etc.).

Wide black area top of the screen.

More than likely it's not the crt. If the picture has "foldover" at the top of where the picture is currently, then more than likely there are bad caps. in the vertical scan circuit. If not, the vertical sizing probably just needs to be adjusted. You will have to get in to the service menu to do that.
