Question about Black & Decker String Trimmer Cordless 12" 18V

1 Answer

Having problems starting Makita strimmer. There is quite a lot of smoke coming out and then it stops. Have looked at spark plug -clean, and cleaned air filter. Could the problem be the petrol and oil mix.

Use 50:1 gas/oil with a GOOD QUALITY 2-cycle low-ash synthetic oil.

Remove the muffler and check the spark arrestor isn't partially blocked.

With a clear muffler, and the mix as described, there will be hardly any smoke at all.

My RST210 2 stroke petrol strimmer won start it has a spark at the plug also the plug is flooding so fuel is getting through but non start ? Great full for any ideas

Often it's the easiest thing that stump us. Try changing the spark plug first. Sometimes a spark plug just won't fire under load, i.e., while it's in the cylinder but will spark if you have it removed. There are checkers for this, but it's a lot less expensive to just replace the spark plug. Do that first and let me know.

How do i stop the back firing and get it started

I had possibly the same problem with my lawn tractor about a month ago... I tried removing the carburetor and cleaning it, but I always ended up pushing debris into another area and creating new problems. Eventually I just bought a new carburetor, changed the oil (some gas had gotten into my oil thanks to the problems I had with my carburetor), cleaned the spark plug, emptied the oil filter and replaced it, checked the air filter ((no oil there, phew)... and it seems to be running fine after 3 engine hours (knock on wood).

My backstory is the lawn tractor was sitting in the garage with our car for two years and not used. I prepped it for long term storage, but failed to drain the carburetor of old gas, so the old gas gummed up the works (even with fuel stabilizer). When I did get it running (after changing everything listed above) a lot of smelly white smoke kept coming out, but as I let it idle in fast speed the engine strokes became more regular and the bouts of white smoke became fewer and shorter until the smoke stopped altogether.

Hopefully this helps!

My stihl fs56 strimmer will not start,i have a spark & fuel new plug cleaned carb help please

if you have spark and fuel then id be looking at lack of compression.. damaged piston ring or damaged crank seal/gasket

Dolmar ps 34 or makita dcs34

Replace the spark plug and get some starter fluid. Add FRESH gas/oil mix. Spray a couple squirts in the spark plug hole, replace the spark plug and try to start it. I would add Sea Foam (get it at any parts store) to the gas tank and let it run for ten minutes. Go to the manufacturers website, support, and search for your saw by model/serial number.

When in park car idles at 1700rpm and when stop it sits at around 1000rpm but quickly rises around 1500rpm. It also runs quite 'rough'. Any ideas why or how to improve problem

sound like you have an air leak don't know model as not on the list. you put up. but would start looking for a pipe on the air inlet line breathers and vacuum lines listen for hissing and you should find it. failing that there is an idler valve on the top of the air intake take that off and give it a good clean out. should drop down to between 800 - 900 rpm then. rough running could be a worn out set of plugs or leads this will not help with idling issues.. could you tell me what smoke color is coming out of the exhaust this may help further.no coulor or slight gray is good. dark gray is a lot off water ( can happen it the exhaust is parked up ways on hill over night, need to be on level ground) black smoke over ritch or not burning fuel. usually cause back fire will see this when looking at spark plugs if they dark brown with liquid on them. replace plugs and leads and if not done so for a wile replace asir filter.

My Craftsman 5.5 hp 14" rear tine tiller blows black smoke and quits. Gas is clean and new and so is the oil.

black smoke means incomplete combustion of various reasons.
motor stops because no longer able to maintain enough air combustion.
conclusions:
shock cord is blocked.
spark plug / spark plugs not working properly

Nope, it's not the carb. The plug is wet and probably black as well. Wet plug and lots of smoke means too much oil in the mix which is where the problem lies. Get a compression tester and look at the pressure reading; anything less than 90psi means the piston ring is stuck and needs to be replaced/cleaned.

Suzuki alto engine problem?

Try this first before having the engine rebuilt.

Go buy a bottle of Lucas engine treatment and add it to the oil, if in a couple hours of driving you do not gain more power, the engine is not running better Ect. then yes you need to have it rebuilt.

But try this first, this stuff im sending you to get is the leading engine treatment in the world.

I have actually cured engine knocks permantly with htis stuff.
