Question about Kenmore 43142 Front Load Washer

2 Answers

Cycle finished but door won't open and lock light is off.

I am not sure about Kenmore model but machine is similar to picture of model #43142. No manual is available. For renovation purposes this machine was recently pulled out from original location but no changes to connections, etc, have been made. This is the first use since it was moved.

    His reply:
Thanks for using FixYa. Please check the door motor for proper resistance. To check the resistance, disconnect the electrical supply from the washer and remove the wire harness from the motor terminals and place ohm meter probes on it. The motor should have a resistance of approximately 1900 ohms at room temperature. The machine control monitors the door lock mechanism to ensure the door is locked. This is done through the door lock enable switch. During "lock mode," the shaft of the door lock mechanism is pressed forward by the door lock motor, and the shaft presses in the button of the door lock enable switch. If the machine control board sees the switch open during the spin cycle, the machine control board will automatically shut the washer off. This is caused by a weak spring in the door lock motor. Replace the complete door lock mechanism. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Without a manual and or diagram showing parts names and location, this is no help. I have waited over an hour for Mr. Smith's second reply and I need specific help sooner than that.

This mashing machine was in this cabin when we bought it therefore I HAVE NO MANUAL OR OTHER GUIDE SHOWING KNOBS, BUTTONS OR CONTROL PANELS. I suspect that the machine was made by another manufacturer than Whirlpool and my guess is that it's a Frigidaire product sold under the Kenmore name in the 1990s. All I know is that it's a Kenmore heavy duty 2 way tumble action washing stainless steel machine because that what it say on the front. We have removed top and front bottom panels trying to find the model number (because there's not one on the exterior surfaces) and in no place is there a control lock/unlock button. I am now trying your short wash cycle suggestion.

  • claresfree May 09, 2010

The short cycle method did not work. I really need to see labels and pictures and receive suggestions (other than taking a pry bar and wrenching the door off) for what to do when all else fails.

Ginko, I'm sorry that you don't like to work on problems started by another person. I don't like to wait two hours after the first solution is offered and has not solved the problem for the second solution NOT to appear. My initial contact was sent shortly after 9:00 AM and your second solution came in at 2:17 PM. But my time is valuable, too, and maybe he went to church. Your second solution came too late; I applied the pry bar and opened the door but not without damage. However that's my problem only.

Hi.

The washing machine is control locked.

Try following the instructions here:The front light lit on my Whirlpool

I wrote this instructions for Whirlpool, but they apply to your Kenmore washing machines and dryer because this Kenmore was built from Whirlpool (Kenmore does not build its own appliances).

If the instructions in the article do not work,e problem may have been made worse by the presence of water in the tub. In that case try the following.

Trip circuit breaker or disconnect power cord.
Connect back and start a short cycle, allowing water to drain.
If machine is still locked perform procedure in the article again.

Regards.

    Hi.

If the lock light is off, then the machine is obviously not control locked. Sorry but I could not read the end of the problem title, and I thought you wanted to say that the light was on.

This machine has been built by Whirlpool by the way.

On kenmore there is an emergency lock hidden inside the appliance. You will need to access the lock by lifting the front kick panel. Operation must be done by a trained person and after disconnecting power.

Here the step to open the door :

Emergency Unlocking for Kenmore Door Lock System
    1. Disconnect power cord or trip circuit breaker.
    2. Remove the lower kick panel in front of the washer.
    3. Put the arm on the inside and locate the bottom
    of the door lock unit.
    4. On the bottom of the door lock unit you will find a
    tear-drop shaped tab.
    5. Pull the tab down until the lock opens. You will hear a click.
    6. Open the door

In some unfrequent occasion the door and the lock mechanism is jammed. In that case the lock must be accessed lifting the upper panel

I do not like working on problems started by a different expert, please do not forget to leave feedback.

    Regards.

    Ginko.

    Hi Clares.

My critic was not addressed to you, but to the expert that probably "went to church" after telling you to read Ohms on the lock motor.I should not have commented on this, sorry for addressing the problem. I do not want to know who the expert is. We are not allow to comment each other solutions, I hope you will understand.

I will be going offline in about 20 minutes ( I am based in UK, it is getting late in here).

The standard procedure to unlock the door was by removing front lower panel and accessing the emergency lock at the back of the latch.

Please let me know if you have more questions. I will try to answer before logging off.

    Regards.

You can manually release the door lock by taking off the dispenser assebly holder (bezel) on the top, left, and pulling on the door lock release cord you will find inside.

I have the Kenmore energy star front load washer, can't get the model number because I can't get the door open. How can I get the door to open after the wash cycle has finished?

most kenmore front loaders have either a door below the lock or, you can pull out the pedestal then: reach up inside where the lock is and, feel for a lever or, a ring pull the ring down or, the lever over, sorry I can't be more specific but, this info should help.

Not drain

DL is the fault code for door lock error and occurs if the CCU (Cental Control Unit)"recognize" that door is unlocked. Potential reasons for it: - Door Lock/Switch Assembly Failure - In this case it should be replaced. - Door Lock unit is broken or removed from the door. - Look for disconnected wires to the door Lock/Switch unit and to the CCU. - Door Lock/Switch unit Failure
