Please be more specific! Make, model, sometimes a partial series number helps a lot.

General stuff:

Was it stored with fuel in it for more than a month?

When was the last time the gas tank got purged?

What's your fuel filter look like? Can you put a finger on it? If you can, replace it yesterday.

If a full flow lubrication engine with oil filter, when was the last oil change?

Is your combustion chamber pressure relief system TOO relaxed due to gummed lifters from poor oil maintenance? If your valves do not move, you'll get a spark, but no fuel or smell of fuel no matter how much you crank it over.

Will it start with a tablespoon of gas poured into the throttle bore or with carb cleaner/starting fluid then die?

If equipped, does your fuel shutoff solenoid still work?

Have you tried sitting in the seat, foot on brake, blade clutches disengaged?

Usual first time out of the barn stuff should include:

New Filter for air and oil, and if needed, the pre-filter sock over the air filter cartridge(s). New oil for crankcase and Hydrostatic axle - check manual - there might be a filter and a magnet to clean in your gearbox!

New plug. Fresh gas. And a bicycle pump...

If your tires are filled, it's easier to push it to the repair center. ;)

I got a 1987 Cadillac sedan Deville and just put a new start on it it will start up and run great but if u turn it off it takes forever to start back plz help

sounds like a problem with the fuel getting overheated and evaperating when turned engine off , check the engine cooling system is pumping through the fuel intake manifold section as a starting point, check that the engine cooling fan runs on after turning engine off as this cools the engine down to stop the fuel evaperating in the fuel lines etc

2002ford exsplorer shuts of after five minutes and wont start unless you let it sit a while

Bad fuel filter is most likely. Especially if it will idle forever but only drive for 5 minutes and then stalls. Explorers have several fuel filters.

if the other light is ok and the fuel gauge is only dead, may be you have no more fuel, try to refill fuel, if the battery is also dead replace new battery.

My car ran out of gas and i put gas and now it wont start is there a fuel pump reset button

Probably just takes forever to fill the fuel line again, it is not good to run a fuel injected car out of gas, Takes forever to start. Just keep pumping or squirt some fuel in the throttle and fire it up, it will get it moving. Hope this helps.

The battery, starter. amd altenator is fine but wont start

Check out this link. This is a common problem with GM vehicles. They have an antitheft system installed already, when they start to get old, the anti theft engages and turns off things like starters, fuel pumps, injectors, ect. This link explains it all and gives you some options to fix this yourself forever. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

99 yukon 180,000 mi. doesn't start. cranks forever, but won't start. Should I be able to hear the fuel pump when I turn on the key?

yes you should be able to hear the fuel pump run for about 5 seconds once the key is turned to the on pos. check to make sure you have spark. if you do try having someone spray air intake or carb cleaner into intake manifold while you crank. If the truck starts right up for a second (or stays running as you keep spraying) Id say you have a bad fuel pump and id change the sending unit also. (First check the fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay) GMC and Chevy are nororiously known for having bad fuel pump/sending unit problems. I have prob changed over 60 myself.

I have a 2003 stratus and it wont start... Crank sensor???

In a HOT day,old battery and fuel pump will be the prime troublemaker.

You need to charge up the battery and check for 12.4-13.6V range.

How old is the battery?

Most are warrenty for 24,48 or 96 months.

====
Fuel pump motor portion will ran forever. But the plastic diaphragm will give out in a hot day.

Do a fuel injector pressure test. Below 40 pis is trouble.

Fuel filter should be change if the fuel pump is at fault.

ALL more gas until it's over 1/2 tank and re-test.

A weak fuel pump will take more effort to pull fuel from a near empty tank.

Good luck,

My diesel engine on my VW TDI Jetta is having a hard time turning over. It takes forever to start and seems to be getting worse.

Have someone replace your fuel filters ($$$) and put a bottle of "Lucas Diesel Additive" available at Advance Auto Parts $8
P.S. If you have PREMIUM Diesel available in your area (BP-Chevron) run that for a couple of tanks.
Good Luck
