Light meter

The light meter in an SX-70 is not adjustable. If the film is overexposed either the film is bad or something is blocking the light meter eye. Look for dust or debris on the eye surface and clean.

I am having what appears to be a classic problem with the sx 70 after reviewing some forums. The viewfinder goes black when i push the button then nothing for a long period of time. Once i push it again...

How old is the battery? The shutter in all polaroid cameras ia battery controlled, so if the battery is old, the shutter will not function properly. If it's taking a while to make noise, rollers aren't likely an issue - roller issues are evident with spotte development. It may be an issue with the motor, shutter, or battery.

Hi,

The SX70 film pack contains the battery that allows the shutter to activate. Unfortunately you may have a difficult time finding it. Below are a couple links with some good SX70 info. The second one even has a link to the user guide in PDF format. I think the Q-light was on some of the One Step cameras. is that what you have?

Sx-70 is Not Ejecting FIlm When Taking Picture

Possible you got a bad film cassette. In the original Polaroid camera packs they had batteries which actually powered the whole camera. The batteries may be dead or not have much charge in them. They are good for a couple years and as you indicate the expiration is up in another month... Good luck

I have an old polaroid SX70 1000... have sx70 film loaded in there, brand new.. but nothing happens when I click the shutter button! Any ideas?

When you say "brand new" film, the battteries could easily be dead (or too low) if this is old, unused film. The camera's batteries are in the film pack....
I don't think true SX-70 film has been made for years. There is one Austrian company making film for it or people adapt newer film packs to it (read-up on internet).
First thing is to see if the contacts are clean and then to check the battery voltage in the film pack.
You could have battery contacts (in the camera) that need cleaning. Clean contacts with a pencil eraser, scotchbrite or very fine sandpaper.
Try looking online for voltage information. It might be helpful if you can check that.
