Memorex dvd/ vcr combo model mvd4544

Hello Guru,

Please I need your help.

I have a dvd/vcr combo unit that the dvd tray door wont open.
I called memorex they suggest I unplug from the power for an hr to re set, that was supposed to open the door when plugged back into pwr, that did not work.

Another tech suggested that I gently pull or rush on the tray door while pressing the open button. That did not work. I have a dvd in the unit that I need to get out. Is there anything else I can try short of taking the cover off the unit? If I have to take apart it will be my last option. How long should I have it unplugged from the power outlet as not to get shocked when I open the unit? Is there some time that it takes for the electricity to drain out of it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Often, tray door refusing to open is a mechanical problem such as stuck-up mechanism, slipping (or cut) belt, blockage or in some case dislodged disc.

An un-technical solution would be to give it a not so gentle whack on the top cover just right above the loading try location while pressing on the eject button. This is not a corrective solution but simply a possible way of getting the disc out. The idea is to jar the mechanism into action.

The correct repair procedure would be to open the unit and determine which area/section needs attention. Often this could be a simple case of dried up lubrication in the any of the mechanical/moving parts or a slipping or severed belt. In some extreme cases, it could be a defective motor or logic/servo controller. In any case, opening the top cover often would allow you to manually remove the disc.

In reply to your last inquiry, electronic devices of this nature would need a couple of minutes or an hour maximum to dissipate whatever stored electrical energy is left inside.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Dvd/vcr with ** hookup for cable tv

Just hook your antenna or whatever wire you have currently connected to the TV to the input on the new recorder, and you'll be to record anything you can watch now.

Dvd/vcr without cable hook-up

If ** cable TV hookups exists, then the only inputs you can use are the line-in along with audio left/right. You've probably got a slew of output connections. Your unit does **t contain a tuner (which would allow you to use a cable input). You need to have a cable box or other device (vcr/tv) that has outputs compatible with the input of your dvd/vcr. A lot of dvd/vcrs are that way. It actually saves you some $$ since most cable boxes (especially HDTV compatible) already have the required outputs on them.

Connecting dvd/vcr combo with tv and digital cable box.

You trying to put the DVD/VCR combo between the cable box and the TV? OK, cable out goes to vcr in, vcr out goes to tv, I think you got that. Now there should be a tv/vcr button on the vcr/dvd, you need to press that when the unit is on. Also, make sure you are on the correct input on both the vcr and the tv, usually video 1 or AUX and choose line in or L1 on the vcr/dvd. If the tv/vcr button is toggled, itll completely bypass the vcr/dvd player.

Memorex MVD4544 VCR will not record

Take the unit back to the store and exchange it for an other unit of the same. The likelyhood of two units not working is very slim, and good luck with your new unit.

Having problems connecting dvd vcr combo to tv

Hey Pat. Red Yellow White Plugs into back of MVD4544. Red Yellow and white plugs into back of TV. If you have an older TV that has only coax cable outlet, go to Radio Shack or Best Buy and get an RF Modulator. You may need to get another set of Red Yellow White Plugs if you have a cable box. The front connections are Video 2, if placed on the back they are Video 1. When you first turn the DVD/VCR player on, be sure to select the appropriate setting. If you figure out how to timer record on this please let me know. No where in the 52 page book is there any info and their website is a joke. Good Luck.
