If this is an older unit you need to purchase a cleaning disc. The cleaning disc gently removes dust from the laser eye in the unit. It can be purchased at youre local electronics retailer. If this is a new unit call the company and take advantage of the warranty.
At this juncture my best advice to you is to make sure that you are using a properly formatted factory "DVD". Best bet is to rent a dvd if you are unsure of the nature of the formatting. If this does not work you should return the item to the seller.

The DVD portable player and the DVD disc came from the same countries?Ur DVD portable player and DVD disc u are using might have the wrong region DVD disc format frequencies.Like PAL frequencies only play Euroupean,Asia,Middle East,Austriala and Africa products.NTSC frequencise play only USA,Canada and Mexico DVD Disc products.
DVDs are ecoded with region codes to indicate what area of the world they are made for. These codes may be 1,2,3, etc depending on which region they are made for.
DVD player read these codes and if the disc region code does not match the region the device is made for, the player will not play the disc.
Region 1 is for USA so most DVDp players made for use in USA require region 1 discs.
Some DVD players called multi region DVD players can be set to play different region DVDs but they are typically more expr=ensive then one region players and the code must be changed each time a different region disc is played.
Bad news ** it may have damaged the Laser or knocked it out of alignment. A Electronic Tech would have to do that kind of repair.
Depending on what brand it is it may not be cost effective to repair. If it was made in China there will probably be no parts available
hi my father had the same problem and it turns out his dvd player wuld only play -dvds so check your dvds and see but sometimes a more expensive model will only play original dvds and not copies
I have the same problem with my DP313 Norcent. I found though that it will play recorded dvds. It also will play older Dvds and some Anime ones. It will play older recorded mp3s but NOT newer ones, I'm not sure if it's because they are burned at a faster rate or what. Also it will not play any of the new dvds except as stated before some of the Anime ones. It pays to try everything out to ensure it not a mechanical problem. I found it's not with mine, but still unsure why it won't play new dvds?
