DVDs are not being played!!

When I try to run a DVD, I just get an error message saying;Wrong Disc; What could be wrong with the DVD player. It's packing suggests that it supports DVD, DVD /-, CD, CD-R/RW, and JPEG Formats.

Can somebody help me?

Regards,
Panx

It's a new DVD player (ONYX SW2200) that I bought from ASDA last night. I even tried playing the VCDs but it keeps on saying Wrong Disc.

I have returned that unit and got a Philips one. Thankfully, it works on the first go with the same set of DVDs and CDs.

Thanks everyone for taking time and responding to my problem. Your efforts are much appreciated.

What type of dvd player are you using. What type of DVD disc are you playing? Does it do this with a standard DVD (non-burned?)

If this is an older unit you need to purchase a cleaning disc. The cleaning disc gently removes dust from the laser eye in the unit. It can be purchased at youre local electronics retailer. If this is a new unit call the company and take advantage of the warranty.

At this juncture my best advice to you is to make sure that you are using a properly formatted factory "DVD". Best bet is to rent a dvd if you are unsure of the nature of the formatting. If this does not work you should return the item to the seller.

Wrong Regional Disc.

DVDs are ecoded with region codes to indicate what area of the world they are made for. These codes may be 1,2,3, etc depending on which region they are made for.
DVD player read these codes and if the disc region code does not match the region the device is made for, the player will not play the disc.
Region 1 is for USA so most DVDp players made for use in USA require region 1 discs.
Some DVD players called multi region DVD players can be set to play different region DVDs but they are typically more expr=ensive then one region players and the code must be changed each time a different region disc is played.

Depending on the player it could be the spindle motor or try cleaning the lens.

DVD player dropped, now Wrong Disc error

Bad news ** it may have damaged the Laser or knocked it out of alignment. A Electronic Tech would have to do that kind of repair.
Depending on what brand it is it may not be cost effective to repair. If it was made in China there will probably be no parts available

I have the same problem with my DP313 Norcent. I found though that it will play recorded dvds. It also will play older Dvds and some Anime ones. It will play older recorded mp3s but NOT newer ones, I'm not sure if it's because they are burned at a faster rate or what. Also it will not play any of the new dvds except as stated before some of the Anime ones. It pays to try everything out to ensure it not a mechanical problem. I found it's not with mine, but still unsure why it won't play new dvds?
