Sony SLV-D300P Video Distortion

I have the SLV-D300P Video hooked up to play DVD only through the S-Cable connection to my TV. I only use it to play DVDs with the audio going through a tuner and separate set of speakers. I was unable to play a rented DVD do to an assumed "parental control setting" problem. I was playing in the DVD set-up menu on the "Screen Set-up" on the Video Out with the S-Video selected and pressed one of the left-right arrow keys. The picture is now distorted horribly, and I can't find a way to unscramble it. I can press the return button to get back to the menu, but it also is scrambled. It looks like the menu screen is blown up by a factor of 5X, and distorted diagonally. I unplugged the power to see if it would reset, but the gross distortion doesn't clear. I can play a DVD and get the audio, but the same gross distortion is displayed.
Any ideas on what I might have done, and how to get back?

I have the Sony SLV... my problem is similar an earlier question. This is set up to an older TV and its connected to the TV via the "out" to tv cable. It was working fine, but now when I play DVD's I have a split screen (same things shows twice on each side of the screen) and its black and white wit black lines and very distorted. I tried to get into the menu but I cant read anything to maneuver around. I have unplugged everything and all connections waited and reset everything, same thing happens. The vcr tape feature works fine. This has happened before and I don't know what happened but the DVD function just started working again, but not this time. Any ideas??

The unit's software should have a choice to return to factory settings. It sounds like you may have accessed the zoom function of the dvd unit. Try going into there and returning to normal zoom. The return to factory settings may sound drastic but sometimes it is much perferred to trying to run down a problem for hours on end. Good luck.

Just purchased a used sony slv-d300p without a remote. Where can I purchase one

eBay.com offers many Remote Controls. Input the brand and model of your Sony Combo and your search will automatically produce separate Remote Controls along with separate listings for the Combo devices. These new or used Remotes typically range in price from $10-$20.
Good luck.

DVD freezes when playing on a Sony SLV D300P DVD/VCR

That particular unit is very sensitive to scratched or dirty disks. Remove the disk and make sure there are no finger prints, peanut butter & jelly, or popcorn butter stains on the back side. If there is, gently wash the disk under warm water with a DROP of mild dish detergent, being careful not to scratch the surface. Rinse the disk well and dry with a soft, lint free cloth (like an old cotton t-shirt) again being careful to avoid scratching the disk. Replace the disk and play.

If the disk is scratched, there is little hope of fixing the scratch so the unit can read it.....

Where do I find a description of the error codes for a SLV-D370P Sony DVD/Video Cassette Recorder? I have been trying to create a CD from an old vinyl record and the SoundForge software that came with the...

You`ll find the error codes in the service manual, But I don`t think this will help you, it sounds like you have a compatability problem. Are you not better connecting your turntable up to your PC?? You can purchase these really cheaply out of ASDA and other good retailers now which will plug directly into the USB port. You`ll have no problems then, I promise, I`ve done it. Ian

I want to transfer material from video cassette to dvd. I have a Sony cassette recorder slv- se610g and a sony dvd recorder rdr-gx3. Can you please tell me how?

Though Connection details are available in DVD recorder User Manual, yet here is procedure. Find Video Audio Out terminal on Cassette Recorder SLV-SE610G and hook Yellow-Red-White cable in matching color pins and other end of cable will hook in Video Audio Input terminals at DVD Recorder RDR-GX3 and please note, same color pins will be hooked. Insert desired VHS cassette in VCR and push Playback. select input source at DVD Recorder and confirm playback picture and sound of vcr at TV. Now system is ready to record VHS movie on DVD.
If you need further info, please post back here.

Clock Setting problem Sony SLV-D300 DVD/VCR

I had the same problem at first as well. After an hour of frustration, I broke out the manual (imagine that! :) Come to find out, you cannot set the clock when in COMPONENT or SVIDEO mode. When I got the "For this setup, TV connection should be to DVD&VCR output" message, I can immediately switch the TV to RF mode (coax input mode) and voila!... the clock setup screen is available. I think it has something to do with the auto time sensing through the cable tv input. So, my advice - always be in RF mode (CH3 or CH4 depending on what you have the SLV-D300 set to) if you want to set the clock.

Note*** Yes, I agree it was idiocy on the part of the programmers in choice of wording for that error. A simple "Must be in RF mode to set clock" would have been much more helpful.
