Click on start button >> select Run, type "services.msc" without the quotes and press enter. Services windo will open up. Select Windows Audio from the list, right click on it and click on Properties. Change the status to "Automatic" if not and then click on Apply. Then click on Start/Restart button and then check.

Sounds like your IE is corrupt, uninstall it from Add/Remove programs, this will revert to an older version, visit Windows Updates to re-install.

Windows XP will not let me uninstall a programme I no longer use it tells me "InstallShield (R) Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close" HELP

This sounds to me like some of the files your computer has stored to enable an uninstall are corrupted.
Perhaps the best thing to do is use the installer cleanup utility.

Have windows xp service pack 3 loaded don't have sound

Goto Start, Control Panel, add or remove programs. Uninstall the sound card drivers. Reload the Sound card drivers from your Setup CD. Every thing should work fine then. When you load SP3 some of the drivers get corrupted (lost).

No sound for windows xp.

Go back into your device manager. Rught click on your sound card or sound device and say uninstall. After it is uninstalled, don't close device manager. Go to very top to your your computer's name or my computer if you didn't name it. Right click and click on scan for hardware changes. Windows will find your device and reinstall in a second. My sound drives get uninstalled

First delete whatever is causing the problem from device manager. When the computer restarts you may find that the correct driver is installed. If not then you could try this driver http://www.download.com/C-Media-CMI8738-WDM-Driver-Windows-XP-/3000-2120_4-10495783.html
