Thanks for comment on may 09. It sure is not a stuck shutter. I';ve opened the cover, but I don;t know how to reseat the cables. I'm afraid the cables (about ten black wires) have an inner breach or something like that - Aldo

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

By the two thumbs up, I'll assume that you're seeing shutter movement, and the camera is taking normal pictures. If this is the case, a problem with vari-angle screen cameras is that the screen flex cables can become loose from repeated the movement of the screen. This normally can be fixed very easily by just reseating these cables. Please see this post.

Part of LCD screen is streaked and whited out

Usually if the LCD screen is partially damaged, it is just a matter of time before you need to relace it as the image will totally disappear and the screen will not work anymore. I'm not sure what appliance you have but generally for cellphones, the screen is replaced.

Screen blackout

First try pressing the DISP button on the back of your camera. If that's not the problem, then it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Is this a Canon MV600/630/650 series by any chance?

Faulty CCD, I'm afraid! :(

Good new though.:)

If it is a Canon DV camera and was manufactured between 2002-05, you are in luck (if you're in the UK)
