I am try to take a stab at answering your query.

Internet Protocol (IP) Address preceeding with "169" means your PC is not receiving IP Address "generally" from your Boradband Modem or Internet Service Provider (ISP). The PC through Automatic Private Internet Protocol Addressing (APIPA) is assigning itself a temporal IP address.
This conditions means either
1. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Client service is not running properly on your PC (Unlikely)
2. There is no connection between your PC and Broadband Device or ISP wired or wirelessly (very likely)
3. DHCP Server Service is not configured or not running on Boardband device (likely) or ISP (unlikely)
4. Some firewall software when improperly configured are known to block all ports and services. This can block TCP Ports 67 and 68 used by DHCP Client/Server communication (quite likely)
Some pointers for more info;
1. Your query suggest your issues are limited to Wireless connection. Can you access Internet through wired connection? If so;
a) What Wired connection is in use? USB or Ethernet?
b) Is wired connection through same Broadband device?
c) What IP is assigned to your PC in wired connection?
d) If wired connection works, is IP assignment static or by DHCP?
e) What Boardband device is in use? In which mode is the device set to? Router/Bridge
2. If you can't connect both wired and wireless, then it is unlikely your PC hardware is at fault. Call your Broadband Provider for further help and configuration. Try entily disabling your firwall software (if installed) and test conection.
3. If you can connect through wired connection and your IP Address does not proceed with "192.168" or "172.16" then your boadband device is likely in a bridge mode. In bridge mode, the DHCP Server Service on your boardband device is disabled. Most ISPs will only assign only one IP address to a user. If an IP address has been assigned to your PC on the wired connection, then the wireless connection will not receive an IP address and therefore your PC will assign itself an IP in the range "169.254"

How to earn/get money on/from fixya

Keeping track of your earnings

If your Premium Solution or Live Chat Assistance is "Accepted" by the customer, you will be credited the amount on the button (for Premiums) or between $6-$10 (for Live Chats). You can keep track of all the Premiums/Live Chats you have done by clicking on "Account Statements" (also referred to as your Ledger). One note about that- if something older than 7 days is still marked as Pending, then it has Auto Closed and another Expert received credit.

Getting paid
At the end of each month, FixYa audits Experts' accounts. If you have earned $50 or more, your account begins processing. For more info about FixYa's payment policies and schedule, please view the Experts' FAQ section on payments.

Hi, I've just bought the emachine ET1850 and I am trying to install the internet. I have a bigpond adsl install disc which it won't recognize and I also have a belking install disc and it doesn't recognize...

If you want post a question in our free forums then feel free to do so. If you want to pay for our premium service the click on "get immediate assistance". That filters out the best and most knowledgeable guru's instead our less knowledgeable members.

As soon as i connect the mains supply green light on front panel comes on then out then red front panel flashes four times then wait then four times etc...

I leased a computer from Gateway in 2004 and the lease is up. How do I found out about returning the machine OR buying it outright? I have phoned at least 15 times to find out. No one can hook me up...


Try going through the support section of Gateways website. If you can get someone through that they should be able to tell you the procedure for lease termination.

After four years on lease I think you probably MORE than paid for the system already. If you still can't get ahold of anyone through support, I'm sure once lease payments stop coming in, they'll contact YOU. At that time you can find out the information you seek.

Yes, But understand this, we are not allowed to telephone people, we can only use this medium and you should receive an email regarding this reply I'm posting now for you personally.

To verify you have a full license for Office 2007 and not a demo copy (I don't know and you probably don't either) you need to call Microsoft licensing at 1-800-426-9400.

This is your only option and the above phone number is hard to find. Be prepared with your laptop up and running when you call. Sometimes I've been on hold for a long time and others I got through right away.

Sorry I can't help you further. There is no way for anyone to check online to see if your product key is either valid, a demo or a full license.

I hope you find this helpful or has fixed you as you are now on your way to finding through the only means possible the answer to your question.

1. Today I called HP for assistance in regards to a virus I have encountered. I paid $99 for nothing I suppose since I was transferred 3-4 times and still did not receive any satisfaction I would like to...


First of all Tell them you paid and you never got assistance and if they refuse tell them that you will get a lawyer (I wouldn't actually get a lawyer) that will most likely get them to refund you. Now You can e-mail me at 4077mashunit@gmail.com and if you want I can solve your problem from my computer from a screen sharing software I have and you will get the virus removed without paying $99.

1.) restore your computer to a previous date, one which the probloem was not occuring

2.) bakup your data, format the harddrive and reinstall everything
