My laptop is running slow and i can not change my home page to centurylink, need a tune up!

Hi ,
1st- lets get the computer running faster , click on the start button and on your right side you'll see my computer , ,double click on the icon , this will bring up a screen showing your harddrive and dvd/cdrom ......right click on your harddrive ( C:\ ) scoll down the menu to clean disk . this will clean your harddrive .....then another menu will pop up showing you all the files you can delete , go throgh them to make sure you dont need the files ..........click on clean up and this is the 1st step ,
2nd - you can run disk defrag , this will also help yor system .........
OK , now for the centurylink , go into the control panel and click on internet options , this will bring up your service provider , make sure you have centurylink.com as the home page ..........
if you need more help , let me know ....................Good luck Roy

Data transcoding taking too long.

Transcoding takes up an enormous amount of computer power. The best ways to help your transcoding go faster are to:
Check that your hardware is optimal for your computer setup. Free your operating system of unnecessary application that often run in the background taking up resources. Move all of your temporary files, used for transcoding, to any harddrive other than C. Having them share space with the operating system will slow you down further. Always work from your harddrives and be certain your operations don't include the active use of a CD or DVD rom drive. ROMdrives are notoriously slow compared to the average harddrive. If you have money to spend, a solidstate (non-flash type) harddrive would also really speed your transcoding up. You would also be a good candidate for a 64 bit operating system.
Good luck! William

You can get a manual here:

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/content.php?S_ID=450

Did you set the boot sequense in your bios ??

First your CD or DVD drive
Second you harddrive.

Harddrive must be in sata 0.
CD or DVD must be in sata 1.

Or look in the manual how the settings should be.

Good luck.

Cant start my laptop it reads "reboot and select proper boot device and the screen is black ?

Go in to bios by pressing del key sometimes F2 or F1 and see if your harddrive is set to 2nd highest boot priority.Set your CD/DVD drive to first. Save your settings and exit. Remove any cd's/dvd's you may have in your drive plus if you have a flash drive plugged into the usb port unplug it before starting.

If you still have this problem, your harddrive might have a problem with the booting files on it. Reinstalling or repairing windows will fix this. Put your windows disc in and boot to it.

Hopefully you wont have a problem installing or repairing windows or your harddrive could be bad. Before buying a new harddrive for it try removing it from the bay and reinstalling it, in case of a bad connection (example:harddrive wasn't fully connected.).You could go into bios and see if it shows up there.

Hope this helps ya.

there may be a clash of IRQs of the DVD ROMs....
the 1st DVD ROM has been alotted a IRQ and then you connected the 2nd DVD ROM but the OS does not know which DVD ROM drive to look for while loading the OS to look for the boot CD....based on the setting in BIOS for boot order....
plus you may have to define both the DVD roms as primary and slave by making changes in the jumper cables...

My problem is my mainboard being a m2n mx se plus [replacement board] is only a two days old. When I ripped a cd to my 2nd harddrive it came up with following Delayed Write Failure and then later on this...

Check your second harddrive. First check its connection try to reseat it. Secondly, maybe its failing and somehow messing your CPU to boot up. You could try to disconnect your second harddrive for the meantime its power connector and interface cable. Then boot up with only your 1st drive where your OS is installed I suppossed.

Boot up, if this boot with no problem, 2nd harddrive is failing.
