Question about Mark Of The Unicorn MOTU Traveler Sound Card

2 Answers

My traveller is noisy on the four preamps when the phantom power is energised. I thought it was my GATT LD5 mic at first, but my ALESIS mixer powers it up no probs and no noise. So, any thoughts ?

The problem is hardware and only a skilled Technician to resolve, it is safer capacitors are damaged by weather dry out and make those noises. I have that problem too but Motu does not provide the service manual. I'm so technical and try to repair the unit without the diagram.

No sound from mxl 990 condenser mic

From the Micropower PS400 product description it states:

"routes the microphone signal to a mixer or a microphone preamplifier."

• these is just a phantom power supply.

One reason your former setup is OK , is that

tascam m-50 is a mixer preamplifier.

• phantom power supply is just a part of the mic preamp of the mixer

to power up your mxl 990 condenser mic

• What you may need is something like these:

\berenger microphone not working

Since you did NOT give us the model number of the Behringer mic, we can't do much to help... HOWEVER many of the mics are "condenser" mics that REQUIRE "Phantom" power from a mixer or preamp. These will NOT work without the phantom power being supplied. Look up your model number and see if it might be a condenser type.

I have a condenser mic, and it needed phantom power to work, so I bought the Ultra Di-100, but I don't know how to make my mic work with it.

Sorry, but the DI-100 can OPERATE on phantom power, not supply it. If you have a mixer that has phantom power then you have no need for the DI box. DI boxes are to convert unbalanced signals to balanced to send via XLR or TRS cables.

If you don't have a mixer that has built in Phantom power or a source of Phantom power, then you need a mic preamp that can supply the phantom power.

Here is an example device, but DO shop[ around as you should find some even less expensive. Make sure they have phantom power.

What is the switch for on the Phantom power unit at the end of my AKG C747?

Hi,the switch for the phantom power on the microphone is to activation of the mic.Without the phantom being activated, the mic will not work.

It can only be activated with a mixer console that has a phantom activation on it. After connecting the mic to the mixer, activate the phantompoweronthe mixer and switch on the phantom power on the mic,and problem solved.

Note: Mic will not work if no phantom activated on the mixer.

Low mic output on BEHRINGER XENYX 1832FX

You don't indicate what type of mic you are attempting to use. From your description, I would guess that you have a mic that requires phantom power. I believe that there is a phantom power switch on your mixer. Try turning that on to see if that resolves the problem. Phantom power will not harm a standard mic. Please update this with your results.

I have a 6 year old rode nt2000 large diaphragm microphone which is making fluttering noises constantly. I'm fairly certain it's not any of the potentiometers being that the noise is very consistent...

This mic likely has a built in preamp. BEFORE you open the mic, verify that your pahntom power from your preamp is clean.

If you are unfamiliar with phantom power for mics, google it to find a treatise.

Noisy or failing phantom power could be your problem. Also the preamp in the mic could have a problem rather than the diaphram. Dust would NOT normally cause what you are describing.

Need to know if we can hook a phantom powered microphone to our shs audio amplifier

Does your microphone have it's own built in phantom power? If it's just a regular mic, you should be able to connect into any MIC inputs on your Amplifier. Otherwise, you'll have to utilize a mic/line mixer to provide the phantom power your mic needs. Then you would connect your mixer to the amplifier.

Which SHS Audio amp do you have? The ones that I am familiar with do not have any MIC inputs.

(need more tracks) dp01

I'm guessing that you're asking whether the mixer needs phantom power to the mics in which case the answer is that you wouldn't need power there if the mic preamp is providing it already. You'd just plug the mixer's main 1/4" outputs into the DP-01s 1/4" inputs. The 1/4" inputs on the DP-01 are not powered anyway, only the XLR jacks can be powered by turning the phantom power switch on.
