Hi. I have a 10 year old Sharp CX51G4 with audio in/out and video in/out holes at the back. I want to then also connect my 10 year old LG video recorder and new DVD player, as well as the digital set top box. I used to run the DVD and TV through the video centrally, and have a bunch of cables, and have followed other 'fixya' posts, but nothing seems to happen.

    Hi again leethedeuce

The video recorder is an LG EC290W. It has AV1 audio/video inputs and an identical AV2. I have hooked the red/white AV1 out cables to the TV audio/video in. I have also hooked up the blue/green/red cables between the set top box and DVD player, as the STB instruction manual said. The aerial is also in the STB. So I have
    TV-video connected
    DVD-STB connected.

How do I make those two groupings connect?

Once I have figured this out, my last ambition is to get this to run through my Bose Lifestyle 20 system - I had it licked before I moved and it worked a treat.

What problem are you having doing it? What is the make and model of the television? if you don't have enough inputs there are video selector boxes you can get for about 20$, but once I have more information I can give you a more definitive solution.
Thank you,
Lee

I may need the model number of the lg video recorder as well. When you hook up from output from dvd player or set top box to an input, you should have no problem. What type of connection are you using going from the dvd and/or set top box to the tv? composite? Try one at a time and then go from there.
    Thank you,
    Lee

You have a lot going on here and it's also hard to decipher what you mean. To get video and audio on your tv, you would have to have the video which is either yellow for composite, s-video is it's own type and then component which is the red blue and green. So if you have a red blue and green input on the tv, you would have to go from output from the device you want to see to the input on your tv. the way you want to think about it is output from what you want to see to the input on your tv, so you can see it. Start simple and then go from there. Once I have more information i can assist you further if necessary.
    Thank you,
    Lee

How to Connect VCR directly to the TV without problemd

The VCR is today old technology that doesn't marry well with the latest tv sets and accessories. The best way is to connect via a scart lead.

There have been so few digital vcr's produced few households have them - most are analogue format and must either record from a set-top box, from some tv sets while watching the programme, from a dvd or dvr or anything with a scart socket...
Mostly the in-built uhf modulator is redundant and generally the machines are now only suitable for playback of previously recorded tapes, though I still find them useful for recording.

The recorder is 10 years old. All appears to work OK. But on retuning the stations it finds none. Is this because we have moved over to digital and the recorder has an analogue tuner? any fixes?

Where can I buy a digital tv tuner to replace the analog tuner in a DVDRHD04

Generally recording machines fitted with an analogue tuner can only continue to be used to record digital tv by using a digital set-top box.
It would not be practical or economic to remove the internal analogue tuner and replace it with a digital tuner unless the person is a highly skilled and experienced repairer.

Digital set-top boxes are available from all sorts of outlets at all sorts of prices. Many surplus boxes can be found at boot sales, garage or yard sales or charity shops at very low prices.

Most boxes have the minimum of connections and often offer only a scart output but some of the older, more expensive and usually better quality boxes also contained a UHF tuner in a similar way to the old vhs recorders so even older tv sets could be used with digital even though no scart input was fitted.

Now that we are on digital will the SD-37VB dvd vcr recorder work or do I have to alter a setting to make this happen

If the unit has a built in analogue tuner, the unit itself will still operate as normal, but without the built in analogue channels - to record a TV show, you would need to connect an external set top box to it (SD or HD - or both).

In other words, apart from a separate set top box, if required, there should be no need to change any of the unit's settings if it works as is. I do not believe this model has a built-in digital (DVB) tuner.

Can the Panasonic DMR-EH55 be made to receive digital channels? e.g. via a digital capable TV or a set top box? If not, I suspect it will be obsolete when analogue channels cease this year (in Australia)

If you receive your channels through your local cable company, nothing will change. The DMR-EH55 will continue to work normally.
If you receive your channels with your rooftop antenna you'll need a Digital to Analog TV Converter Box. The unit itself will not receive digital signals directly.

Awa dvd recorder dr711 can this be connected to a set top box

If it's like the DR620 it will only receive analogue from the TV aerial. I connect the AV out connections on my set box to the inlet AV on the recorder and watch and record through the recorder's "rear AV input" selection.

No colour when digital set top box attached

Ensure the set top box is set to the correct video out. Probably RGB if scart lead or CVBS if coax lead.

No sound

If I remember correctly, this model can only have sound from either the SCART or the standard input. The solution for this set is to have all the devices work through a common A/V switch box.

The best solution is to update the set to one with more active inputs that are adequate for your needs.
