I can't get my photo's and video's off my camera's memory card

I can still see the pictures and video's on my camera, but when a plug the camera into the usb port, it says that the card needs to be formatted and that all the data on the card will be erased. Is there anyway that i can still download the pictures and videos?

What operating system are you using? are you trying to transfer from the card via the camera, or through a reader? Is there an option to click cancel on the screen that says the card must be formatted?
