Black box in the middle of my mitsubishi tv

My mitsubishi tv has a black box right in the middle of it. Whenever I try to adjust it, like do picture in picture or go to them menu to adjust the settings, the black box in the middle disappears, but as soon as I exit out of the main menu, the box reappears again. How can I get that box off the screen so I can see the screen clearly?

I wish I would have read this post before I called the repair man. I did a google search for "gray box" and this page didn't come up. The repair man fixed it in 5 seconds -- got it out of text mode -- and $79 later, we're good to go. Oh well...

    I have the same problem.

  • LADii NELL Dec 13, 2008

im having the same problem with the black box, but with my tv, it only comes on when im trying to watch a dvd. the black box came on with the tv as well but i turned off the caption and it stopped, but not in dvd mode.

it's not the dvd player because thats brand new, and its not the dvd itself because that worked fine on another tv...

    what do i do now?

This is a common problem, some how you have the closed caption on and turned to the text mode. So to fix this scoll through the tv's menu and find the closed caption and tur it back off

Replace service cords, as they might be getting worn and loose. It does sound like that to me. Bad coaxial cables

I have a Mitsubishi projection tv model wd-52526. The tv has sound but no picture. It will display channels or devices Is there a simple fix to this?

no picture or a big black box covering the picture. If it is a big box covering the picture then you need to turn off closed captioning.

Replaced TY-LA1000 Lamp and now a black box across the picture, TV is PT-50LC14

Check in main menu (set and box if using one) under closed captions--one of the settings is TEXT--black box will appear in middle of screen and certain channels--with the remote turn text off.

Have picture in black & white no color. audio

Hi,it definetely sounds like the color wheel. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises.Found your color wheel here: http://www.discount-merchant.com/MITSUBISHI-00-L3603-002-p/1162430.htm Have a bless one!

Black square in middle of picture

your captioning or "text" is on. usually inside the tv menu. if not its your cable or dish box has captioning on. black box usually means its in text mode instead of CC thus the black box rather than text

Bad color

Turn the color level all the way down and see if you have a good black and white picture. If your screen isnt black and white it should have a predominate tint to it. then turn the screen control for that color down to achieve the best black and white picture. then adjust your color level that should help.

Problems with green arching lines

yes there is a small black box with 6 controls on it, take off the bottom front of the tv, behind that you should find a black piece of plastic you can remove by taking out 2 more screws. the black box should be in the upper rhs.now i don't remember if the top 3 are the screen controls or the focus controls. the rows should be labled, you are looking for the screen control row. the green control is the middle one. you can try turning down the control till you no longer see the green lines. try adjusting in a dark room, it will be easier to see the lines & when they are gone. if you problem is not solved by trying this, then i agree with your tech & the green tube is bad. good luck.
