Question about HP Pavilion M9040N Elite Desktop PC

1 Answer

I have an HP Pavilion m9040n, it came with Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Since November 2009, the system will boot up normally until it gets to the Windows 7 startup logo. When the Welcome screen appears, the screen is all 'static', goes black, and reboots. I have extended warranty (3 year) and have had it in the shop several times. Once they replaced the video card, second time they couldn't find a problem. I just got it back and am having the same problems. I believe its a bad video card. What's up with the video card, rebooting? By the way, the techs at 'SuperTechs' at Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha have been worthless. I basically had to scream at them to replace the video card. This last time they called to say 'can't find anything wrong with your PC. You can pick it up.' WTF. The computer doesn't work and you want me to pick up up. So much for extended warranty.

Since you have hp computer and you have extended warranty on the desktop, so you can do one thing. call up hp and take the support of level 2 support which is called "smart friend" charges are $59.99 and valid fo 3 days.
second option is that you check weather you have upgraded from vista ultimate to win 7 ultimate or not. any other version will give you the problem.
it should be from ultimate to ultimate.
third reason could be possible that the upgrage is not done properly. bring the system to vista back and try upgrading once again. remember the version should be the same. ultimate to ultimate.
downgrade to vista steps:-
first disconnect all external h/w like printer, fax, and a)internet modem if they are attached to the computer,
2)shut the computer off
3)the moment u restart the computer keep tapping the f11 key continously till you get the recovery manager window. stop tapping the key.
4) follow the wizard to do system recover on the computer. which will format the hard drive and reload vista.
Trust me i am working for people and into this proffesion from last 5 years and i will tell you that microsoft has provided the best s/w vista till now.
people are crazy about win 7 but the s/w is still under testing period and lot of people are facing problem.
anyways ur choice !
if you feel unsecure to do the resolution given above then take the help of hp smart friend. tel number is : 866-211-5207.
i am working for the same.

Is this in Device Manager? Did you notice this after the Win 7 upgrade? If so , it's a common problen when upgrading, Is that the only issue? Your Card Reader work? Modem? Co-processor? I have a HP Pavilion DV9320us I loaded Win 7 64bit Ultimate on with similar issues, modem, co-processor, card reader, etc. Use the Win Vista drivers, modify the drivers for Win 7. HP drivers found here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=ca&dlc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001&lc=en&product=3548477& AND change compatibility of drivers , This will give you the general idea: http://www.techsupportforum.com/4478-installing-a-device-driver-under-compatibility-mode-in-windows-7/

HP Pavilion a6010n takes forever to boot to OEM Windows Vista disk

Yes it does - do not disrupt the operation in order to prevent future system operating errors. This is normal. If it fails, you will get a notification error and until then, please be patient. I'm assuming you are installing Windows Vista to upgrade from a previous operating system?

To change the operating systems say from Windows XP to Windows Vista or Windows 7 you need to purchase Windows upgrade disk or a full version of the Windows installation disk.
You boot up with this Windows installation CD to install the new operating system and follow the screen instructions.

I boght an hp.pavilion from costco in sept.2009 the sales jargon said i would entitled to an uprade in november how do i achieve this

I can only guess that what is meant is a system upgrade. And yes, as far as I know, HP Pavilions bought after the 26th of june (or smthing like that...) with Vista are mostly entitled to a free or reduced cost upgrade to Windows 7.

Boooting from windows vista cd

Normally Each copy of windows is capable of booting, provided that Boot from CD is enabled in BIOS Setting of the system.

if having problem please do:-
1. Enable Boot from CD in BIOS
2. Partition, Format, Install Another lower version of Windows (XP), pl dont upgrade service pack.
3. Install Win 7 (Run --> Setup --> Upgrade)
4. Install NERO 6.0 or above
5. Create a bootable using NERO 6.0

Now you can use this this CD for repair, boot, recover or preinstallation, partition etc.

Having Problems on any steps, please feel free to call or mail me.

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....
