Question about Panasonic NN-T694SF Microwave Oven

PANASONIC INVERTER MICROWAVE, 1300 WATTS

The microwave is not heating and after 23 seconds of operation, it cuts off. It doesn't even get warm... it's only about three or four years old and is not used daily.

Light, turntable and timer all work just fine.

Any help you can offer would be most appreciated!

Many thanks,
JW

First, the circuit breaker kept tripping but once the circuit ws back on the microwave would work for a while. Then it started the cut off right after it started. It did this a few times so I unplugged it and removed it because I was afraid something worse would happen. I thought I would try it again. This time I noticed a weird noise and the inside light dimming. I think it's had it.

Same thing with Panasonic Inverter 1200W, and is only 3 years new!

    Probably not worth repairing?

Listen for the cooling fan; if it isn't running, the unit may not be able to turn on as a safety feature.

Also; when it 'cuts off,' does the rest of the unit show signs of life still?
If so, it could be any number of internal failures, the magnetron itself, the power supply that delivers high voltage or the heavy transformer that supplies that section.
What you still have working is not dependent on that section.

I've noticed that many things are failing earlier than they once did; it comes from the pressure to keep prices down so we can still buy their stuff with decayed dollars.

An add-on to the first message:

After seeing several others with problems in that series, it started to seem familiar.

I looked at many models while searching for one to replace our aging but working unit and found that many of the later designs utilizing invertors in their power supplies, were very prone to failure.

This principle is similar to a PC power supply (I was intimately involved with these many moons ago during the early development) and certain components are very critical in them.

    Your unit is reviewed here:

You ain't gonna like what you find there.

Sorry - but then, would anyone care to buy a Saturn SL2, purchased new, with about $4,000 worth of repairs and a blown engine at 57k miles?

If you try to heat something for a minute , the microwave will turn on for about 15 seconds then shut off . It doesn't even seem to warm the food.

It may need a reset. You can do that by unplugging the power for a minute or two, then plugging it back in and setting the clock.

If it still fails, you may have a failing cooling fan or a problem on the control circuit board.

Panasonic NN-F542BF 1300 watts microwave switches off after 3 seconds

It sounds like you were sold somebody else's problem, it could be a bad magnetron, cracked high voltage diode, and a shorted high voltage capacitor to name a few. I recommend a professional if you feel it is worth getting checked.

I have a panasonic inverter microwave model #nn-S540BFWR. What is the wattage on this model or where can I locate the wattage

The output wattage is 1100 watts. It can be found on the second page of the operating instruction manual. If you don't have one, you can download it at retrevo.com, just enter the model number and get a pdf of the manual. Hope this helps you.

Shuts off after 23 seconds....

In most cases when the microwave stops @ 23 seconds it's the Magnetron which has failed, and is shorting to earth.

Either that or the magnetron isn't getting the right signal from the inverter board. It gives it 20 seconds to get the right signal or it shuts itself off.

Faulty Panasonic inverter dimension 4 combination microwave

If it stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

You can find an authorized Panasonic servicer here.

The 22 seconds is the giveaway.

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.
