Acer Aspire T180 is missing Video Controller Driver

I recently downgraded my Acer Aspire T180 from Vista Basic to XP Pro 32 bit. I'm trying to locate the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) driver with no success. I've been to Acer's website and downloaded Video Controllers for the Vista Basic 32 bit and XP Pro 32 bit versions, however the ATI ones aren't locating the hardware (probably because it's a NVIDIA video card) and the NVIDIA one for Vista won't install because, well it no longer has Vista as the OS.

Do I need to download the NVIDIA chipset driver for XP Pro 32 bit or what? A link to the driver itself would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes you would need the VGA drivers for the new OS. Please visit the site http://download.famouswhy.com/acer_aspire_t180_vga_driver/ and download the required drivers. Also follow the link below in future when you need drivers or any other SW.

Find out what type of Nvidia graphics card it is, then goto the nvidia site and download the installer from them. The installer usually supports multiple families/models of cards. But yes, you need to download the installer for Win XP pro.
You can do it manually, or have it automatically scan for the hardware and download the correct driver automatically.

Here's a link to the automatic --> http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us

Can you downgrade from vista to xp on an acer t180?

Of course you can.
The only concern would be drivers, but all drivers that exist for Vista exist for XP as well. Just go to Acer's download page (link) and download all necessary drivers before you downgrade. (this is especially important for your Chipset and LAN drivers, so you have them handy when you reinstall.

The site is a little it confusing, but after you chose "Desktop -> Aspire -> Aspire T180", you will see a small drop-down menu, where you can choose your operating system and your language.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

So i decided to downgrade my acer aspire t180 from vista to xp, most things seem to work ok but have question marks on pci device and sm bus controller in the device manager. sound is not working either....

Since you have downgraded the system the drivers must be installed for the Operating system you are using. Kindly visit the manufacturer's website to download the drivers
Chipset, Audio, Video, BIOS, Wireless/ Wired internet.

This will make sure that everythiung works fine.

No video/sm controller drivers for xp

hello,

YOu can download driver from the acer wbsite. or copy and paste to the address bar the link provided by geek63640, and then in "product line" select "Desktop" then in product select "aspire T 180" and in the download column select what driver you want to download.

But recommended to download all the drivers and then install all. pls install in series.

Need Drivers

Actually you need to install chipset drivers first then you shoud try for additiona PCI driver like external sound card.
Try one thing again, go to your www.acer.com site and search driver as per your "Service tag no." not for model no. and download drivers for 'Chipset' and others as per your requirement.

Thanks

Acer Aspire T180 Missing Drivers

My problem was with the T180 was the VGA support under XP. Reinstalling the Chipset drivers fixed that - audio and ethernet still broken but I'm using a wireless adapter for networking and I have separate sound care for sound - but anyway the link is:

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html

I downloaded and installed chipset for XP 32 and it worked fine - presume the same is true for the Home Edition drivers.

I did try the pdf index suggested by a previous poster but I found all the links to XP drivers were broken.
