Machine is bump feeding the wire

When i go to weld, the machine is not consistent, it bumps or stutters as the wire comes out, i have adjusted tension on the welder, it is a mid-90's welder, how do you know if you need to replace the feed cable or not, it is a home use welder, i have heard that you have to replace periodically. thanks for any help.

where do i find parts for my welder, i find out that that it has been bought out by lincoln welding, do they still carry stock in the century brand, or do they even still make century welding machines? my dad bought it for me for Christmas after high school, in the 90's, i think from Sam's(wal-mart) when they sold them, and paid around $4-500 for it. thanks again.

Bumping or stuttering could be due to too high a wire feed rate. But suspect on an older machine you may need a new liner or worse... a new gun assembly if still available for machine

If they were bought out then the company that bought them out is responsible for support and repair items. That is if they are very reputable. I would expect that Lincoln is pretty reputable. However what I am going to do is go down to my local welding supply with my cable and have them fix me up. Ultimatly they should know where the replacements are since those are common item replacements.

the obvious, yet sometimes overlooked problem is to check if the wire feeder rollers.do you have the proper tension set?(did you do the wire test when you shot the wire to see if it bends or stops)

Potentially, I would tighten tension on the feed wheels slightly first and see if this improves it. Also blow out the cabinet on a periodic basis as debris can also build up in the knurlings of the feed wheels. If it does not, pull out the liner and check it for kinks or other damage.

Depending on how old you machine is, its possible that the wire feed rollers are worn causing the wire to slip in the grooves. Replacing the WFRs may solve the problem. Test this by watching the feed rollers as you pull the torch trigger, place a gloved hand over the nozzle as the wire comes out and watch to see if the rollers slip on the wire when the wire meets the resistance of the glove. If it does that likely the problem. Hope this solves the problem.

My handler 125 has been setting in the garage unused a year or two. i just turned it on and it doesnt try to feed the wire out. any ideas?

If you can see the tip of the wire, grab it with a plier, and pull. If it comes out easily, you need to adjust the tension on the feed wheel under the cover a little bit. Do NOT touch that adjustment with power on unless you are wearing good gloves, even then there is still a danger of shock as that is the point the secondary of the transformer ties to.

If it does not come out, open the cover, and look at the tension on the feed wheel- if it spins and no feeding, the welding wire may be jammed up or corroded to the liner of the handle. If it is all bunched up and tangled, that in itself may be the problem.

Just purchased and tried to use my flux welder. It jams before flux even comes out the handle.

have you tried adjusting the tension on the flux wire? before you start feeding the wire into it make sure there isnt any kinks in the wire. seems like it doesnt take much for it to bind up once you get start welding with it im sure you will run into this problem quite allot. usually its from welding the wire to the tip. i have to be honest it can ve a pain in the ***
