Question about Kenmore 98702 Stacked Washer/Dryer

4 Answers

I replaced the dryer shaft and bearing assembly on my Kenmore stacked washer/dryer. As I was reassembling the unit, I discovered a red and black wire running from the front of the dryer toward the rear that is disconnected. What could this wire be and where should it be connected near the back?

I'm sure manuals and wiring diagrams would show me the answer, I do not have those materials. The problem is a single wire that is red and black, not two wires. I just need to know where to reconnect that wire.

The wiring diagram provided might have been helpful but it would not print. Further, when I try now to reopen the diagram it will not open. Anyone else have a solution?

I have located the correct wiring diagram and I see the red/black wire in the dryer diagram indicated "to L1 connector". I see in the washer diagram a black wire indicated "to dryer L1 connector". I see no disconnected black wire anywhere. The red/black wire appeares to have been connected to a crimped connector/connection.

For your reference, the model number is 417.94812301. The red/black wire is connected on one end to a large connector block, perhaps the L1 connection. The other end, however, is the disconnected end which also suggests it may go to a red wire. I have examined all of the blocks I can see and find no obvious openings.

check the terminal block for an empty connector and use a new terminal to reconnect to the same terminal . Strictly the same terminal on the block .

Refer to this wiring diagram for your reference. It is recommended to print it out for a clear view of the wiring labels.

Ok, there are the service manuals, you should be able to find everything out from those manuals, they have circuit diagrams etc. Red & Black, usually go to the Thermal Cutout, but please check. It's in the manual.

I have a stacked Frigidaire FEZ831CA washer/dryer combo and when running the dryer it makes a very high pitched (AND LOUD) screeching sound. Any ideas as to what might be the problem? Thanks, Sean

screeching sound
Sean, Bad felt gasket body to drum, if belt drive on dryer, it could be worn and slipping, making a screech, or if not the belt, the drum may have a worn bearing on its hub allowing it to run crooked and rub where it should not.

Loud squealing sound when the basket first spins up this is a Kenmore stacked set, washer on the bottom, and dryer on top

Your problem could be a bad bearing...The drum rides in a bearing at the rear middle of unit..Its basically a plastic insert...When the dryer is first started the bearing will squeal until the plastic warms up..Normally you will hear the squeal at the back middle of dryer...Your problem may also be the belt tensioner...Again a plastic wheel with a metal bearing inside...Normally this squeal will be from start to finish..

Need to change wiring from 220V to 110V

Black or red is hot; green is ground; white is your neutral. The black should be for 120 and the red for 220.

I AM REPLACING THE BASKET ASSEMBLY ON MY KENMORE FRONT LOAD WASHE

The shaft on the spin basket assembly is not lubricated. The shaft is inserted through the sealed bearings located in the rear outer tub shell. Placing any grease on the shaft would end up in your wash and damage your clothes.

Kenmore stackable dryer makes squealing sound. need to find out where to get replacement belt. heard people say open it up and replace the belt but we dont know where it opens up.

probably not belt most likely rear drum bearing which means a complete tear down of dryer from front console, rop and front panel will have to be removed then drum will need to be lifted up out of bearing cup belt removed part is avaiable from sears .com or local parts house unit is made by fridgedaire

Noisy Dryer Drum - Squealing/Grinding type Noise.

I have a Kenmore Stacked Washer/Dryer (Model 417.91702000) that has had the same thing happen. I have replace mine twice . . .It is the rear dryer bearing.

You can purchase a kit that contains everything to replace it.

You have to work from the front, all the way to the back.

Make sure that you also check the felt pad glide on the front door panel (the drum rotates on this). You may need to replace it also, it should have teflon pads built into the felt that the drum rests on . . .
