AVLS stands for Automatic Volume Limiter System - and it basically limits the maximum volume being output which is why your volume control isnt working properly. You will need to go into settings to turn this option off.
Press and hold the back/home button until the HOME menu appears, press the arrows to select Settings then press the Play button to confirm, press the arrows to select Common Settings then press the Play button to confirm, press the arrows to select AVLS(Volume Limit) then press Play button to change it to OFF.
Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings. That will be the only way
When your player freezes, it will only start up and not play the songs
or even the buttons won't respond to your pressing them, it is more
like your computer hanging and never coming back to working fine unless
you restart it. The first thing you should try to do is read the
instruction manual and check where the reset button in your MP3 player
is. Take a small pin and push the reset button. This will make you
player go off for and then you can put it on again and it will work
fine. However, there is a possibility of data loss when you reset. Most
of your stored stuff will be gone after reset. Another thing that you
can do to retrieve your player is doing a firmware update. Do a refresh
of your firmware and see if it works, in most cases, it does. Other options are the same that you and everyone else will try as soon
as you MP3 player freeze. That is opening the MO3 player and taking out
the battery. Set the battery back and push the power button again. It
is always a good idea to do a firmware upgrade right after .you can also open it up and blow on it.
and you are sure the volume is all the way up? If the headphone jack thinks there is something in there the ipod touch will only play through the headphones. you can try to blow out any dust in there with a can of air and that might solve your problem.
WARNING: this process will erase all songs off the GoGear.
Disconnect the GoGear from computer.
Turn the GoGear off.
Hold in the volume + button.
Reconnect the GoGear while holding in the volume + button.
Continue holding the volume + button.
After 5-50 seconds, Windows will pop-up a "Found New Hardware Wizard." - complete the wizard (BTW, you can take your hand ff the volume + button now).
Good To Go (Gear)!

Possible hardware issues, but try soft fixes first. firmware upgrade resolves most intemrittent freezing issues, but:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
This problem seems to occur when the device overheats. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but all my videos set at 720 by 480 wont play when the device is left running for a long period of time. The smaller video files, however, still play. I think it deals with the amount of system resources required for such files to play. If you turn the device off completely by going to menu, power, and turn off device, and leave it sit for 30 minutes, all files should play properly when you turn it back on.
As a suggestion, DO NOT leave your Archos powered on and on the dvr station. This causes the device to constantly run, and if you havent noticed the Archos operates at an extremely high temperature.
