Samsung Ecogreen F2 (HD154UI) 1.5TB HDD not found on 2/3 PCs?

I have a Samsung Ecogreen F2 (HD154UI) 1.5TB HDD in a Rosewill enclosure. It's been formatted and has 3 ~500GB partitions. I can use it on my Acer laptop (Vista), but both of my girlfriend's Dell work laptops (XP) can't get to them via network or USB. Oddly, it does show up in Device Manager under both of her Dells. I can add it using Add New Hardware but it still doesn't show up. Any idea why her Dell laptops running XP can't see this drive, when my Acer laptop running Vista can?

Both of her Dells are running under different domains, and mine is in my own workgroup. Is that why we can't seem to network to share folders?

Thanks, OnkyoOwner. What happened was i initially formatted it using the newer partition type, GPT/GUID PT (as opposed to MBR), which XP and older versions of Win can't read. Once i reformatted it and partitioned with MBR tables instead it seems to work fine. Cost me all my data, which i wasn't prepared for, but such is life.

I'm deep-scanning it using Recuva now. I have my doubts, since it's been repartitioned using a different file system, but maybe it will find something. Thanks again!

Vista and XP are a pain in the **** to make work as a network. as for the driver. Vista may have drivers built in to see it. and XP may not. see if there are any drivers for the external drive on the samsung website.

you can google un-deleter aps. some will read the format you you did first. and you may be able to recover some of the data what was on the drive. there is one called active undeleter that I have used on a few drives and I was able to get back about 60% of what was on the drive. cant hurt to try..

I've got a samsung m3 portable that has suddenly stopped being recognised

it is not uncommon for external hard drive enclosures to fail. If its not working on multiple computers, this is probably the case. try it in 1 more computer and if it still doesn't work, I would do the following:
1. Open the enclosure to expose the actual Hard Drive and obtain the model number and note the size. if its a laptop hdd, its 2.5". if its a full size hdd like in a desktop pc, its 3.5". the enclosure may be screwed together but likely snaps together.
2. Google the model # to determine the interface and speed (likely SATA 3.0gb/s but could be SATA 6.0gb/s
3. Go to Newegg.com or Amazon.com and buy a new external hard drive enclosure ($5-$35) with the same interface, speed, and size as your hdd (use the filters on the left to narrow your search)

4. Put your hdd in the new enclosure and check if its working.

RX355-u not recognized as drive

With the drive plugged in, right click on Computer, Manage, Disk Management. If you do not see the drive in here. There is a problem with the drive or the enclosure the drive is in. Put your hand on the drive and check if it is spinning (vibrating). You can try buying a new enclosure from your local electronics or online store. Open the enclosure and pull the drive out and put in the new enclosure. If it doesn't work the drive is probably bad and you will need to replace the whole thing.

Samsung hd154ui hard drive - cannot format above 1 TB says 500gb available but does allow one to create a partition

The drive has developed some bad sectors on it
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer
then defragment your hard drive
or you could download partition magic
when you download partition magic you will have the option to make rescue to disks to boot from make these disks then change your first boot device your to floppy drive this will give you options to partition then partition only the good sectors of your hard drive and install an operating system to the good partition Partition Magic 8.0 Partition Magic 8.0
note: after you loaded your operating system you will have to change the boot order back to your hard drive

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

Remove the hard drive it must be in a totally pure enviroment which means no dust or any foreign particles in the air to open up the hard drive
give the hard drive a firm tap on one side to free up the read arm the reader arm you might be able to get it up and running long enough to salvage all of your data/might even last forever then you might cleaning all of the dust from your computer using a fine air blower from an air compressor making sure there is no moisture in the air line

This won't be the best solution for you perhaps because I'm not a windows guy, but download the gparted (just google for gparted) cd image, burn it to disk and boot it up. Use that to partition and format the drive.

Is my hard drive broken? Cant get it recognised on other PCs

I'm having a similar problem with the same Akasa integral enclosure, so far I have tried 3 different hard disks and not one of them will work properly and on two different computers.. , all of the hard disks I've tried are Samsung .. but I'm sure that makes no difference. I plan to send back the enclosure to where I bought it from and get a different one from a different manufacturer.
