  • yoshi027 May 09, 2010

Hi I have tried print&fax setup/delete many many many times and it does not work. But thank you for the quick response.

  • yoshi027 May 09, 2010

Hi ginko, I tried what you said but it doesn't work. I've been trying over and over again. I can't believe that after only 1300 sheets I have no memory! I've printed way more on my other printers with the same amount of memory! this is frustrating. Thank you for trying. I also don't have any stores anywhere in my location that sell printer memory and I need printer by today.. Guess I may have to go and buy another one.

  • yoshi027 May 09, 2010

    Hi ioktay,

I did try this method, however you can only reset tnr not memory... I noticed that the picture on this post says HL 1440 laser printer.. I just wanted to make it clear I have a HL 4040 CDN. Thanks for your help.

  • yoshi027 May 10, 2010

Hi issken, Thanks for the comment. I guess I should have mentioned this earlier.. yes there is a way to take out the covers to ADD memory, however the INSTALLED memory is sautered in... i.e. I can't even lift it out of the slot to "reset". I've had it with this printer.. I'm going to the dumpster with it very soon. I also don't understand why i would have a memory problem since the manual/box say up to 35,000 pages a month of printing! I've only printer about 1000....

Just bought it 3 weeks ago

It sounds like there may me a problem with the memory on your printer. I would recommend reseat the memory chip. After you do this and still have trouble you may need to replace it. If you go to page 95 at the link below it will tell you how to access it.

How long have you had the printer for? You must have an early version of the printer if the memory is sodered in.

When you bought it 3 weeks ago was it new from a store. If so and you can not return it I would call Brother to get an RMA to get the printer fixed or replaced.

The printer went out of memory. If the problem persists you will need to replace or to increase RAM memory.

To empty the printer cue, disconnect printer from computer and disconnect printer power cord.

Restart computer, and with printer still not connected, try again emptying the printer cue.

If that does not work remove the printer from Installed Printers in control panel, and reinstall the printer software using the printer CD or the drivers from Brother printer driver download.
Keep the printer USB disconnected while starting the driver setup. The installation program will tell you when to connect the printer.

Here a RAM upgrade: Brother HL HL-1440 - 8MB (1X8MB) 60NS NONPARITY 72 PIN FAST PAGE

    Hi again,

If your operating system is not Windows XP, Please do not do the followings, write me your operating system as comment.

If your operating system is Windows XP then do the followings to stop the print spooler and its files. You will run the script file which I send you and that will automatically stop the service. (delete print que)

    1. Please download and save the file named "DeletePrintJobs.cmd" from this link directly to your C:\ folder in your PC which I uploaded for you. (You must have admin password for your PC to do that)

Then open the command prompt. To do that:

    2. Click Start, and then Click Run.

    3. In the Open box, write (or copy and paste) the following text :

    C:\DeletePrintJobs.cmd

    4. Click OK

Notice that the Command Prompt window opens to run the command script file that you created. Notice also that this window closes automatically when the command script file has finished running. If you do not see the Command Prompt window open, check that you saved the command script file by using the correct name and that you entered the correct command script file name in the Run box.

    5. Restart your computer.

    6. Try to print.

    Hope this helps.

The command prompt window and your command will be as in the picture below after you save the downloaded file to c:\.

Please do the followings for the Mac OS:

    1. Open "Print Center" in Applications > Utilities

    2. Click on the "Print Center" menu,

then press and hold the option key and select "Quit Print Center".

A dialog box asks you if you're sure you want to delete your printer and any jobs waiting to be printed. Select "Yes".

    3. Open Print Center again and re-add your printer.

    Hope this helps.

I mean, if you find the menu to delete or uninstall the printer, then if you reinstall it, all the print que will be emptied.

  • Ibrahim OKTAY
    Ibrahim OKTAY May 09, 2010

In your computer the menu to delete the printer may be as below :

    - System Preferences >"Print and Fax" icon

    - Select Printer from the list

    - Remove the printer > Click "Yes" to remove (To remove click the "-" button )

_ Then restart you computer, re-install the printer

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

I've read somewhere that you can access a resetting menu, opening the case and by pressing "cancel" and "reprint" at the same time. You may check to see any submenu in the list related to the memory of the printer. (All varius parts can be reset in this menu)

    Only for your info.

    Hello Yoshi again,

Sorry I just wanted you to try something.

If the memory module (chip currently plugged in the memory slot) in your printer can be taken out then replaced back in its module may help if it is possible.

Of course if the standard memory module is not built in type.

What happens if you change the slot of the current memory. First you can try without memory to power on the printer then reinstall the memory module., etc.

Only brainstorming to help you. Because I wonder why it didn't worked.

    Maybe helps.

Try opening the printer and checking for a paper jam.
It's also worth removing the toner cartridge and placing it back again, therefore forcing the printer to go through the diagnostic cycle again. Sometimes that solves the issue.
Hope that helps!

Ran out of toner a week ago...stopped printing....did my print jobs and/or faxes go somewhere to retrieve later when toner replaced?

Your print jobs may still be in the spooler of the printer. Check the computer (Windows 7, Start > Devices and Printers. Windows XP, the title was Printers (IIRC)). The incoming faxes will be stored in memory; it can store up to 320 pages. (If you have other faxes in memory, the number of incoming faxes that can be stored will be less. Clear the memory after replacing the toner and printing the stored jobs. Press Menu until you see Maintenance then the left and right arrow to select the item to clear. Then press Enter to clear that area. When done, press Clear/Stop.)

I hope this helps.
