Please help me!! I am trying to print out professional letters and I am getting smudging across the lettering. I've tried the maintenance cleaning and I've tried cleaning the head with alcohol, do you have any other suggestions as to what I can do to stop this smearing? Thank you for your time!

First of all..do u refill ur toner?? if so i advise u to get a new original one and refill that..do refill the same toner for more than 3 times. Secondly, How old is ur printer and how many pages do u print weekly..or u be better off buying a new one...Finally, I think the problem is with the heated rubber rollers that are not melting the charged toner particles causing it to smudge. try cleaning the printer by removing any dust...i prefer that u try it out with a new toner and see if u have a same problem.
I don't know for sure that it will help, but try to work through the Hp troubleshooter for your printer and see if you can't come up with a solution Click here
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
Try reducing the print resolution using the menu buttons. Does it smudge with coloured prints? If so then the fuser unit is faulty. If it is only black that smudges it is likely to be the K Developer unit. Ensure that you are using genuine toners, not refills or third party as the quality of toner can cause similar results.
I would suggest removing HP Director from the computer using Add/Remove programs in the control panel and then reinstalling.
If that doesn't work let us know what operating system you are using, any error messages, problems, or changes that lead up to this situation.
