Question about Zonet MULTI FUNCTN USB 2.0 PRNT SRVR (ZPS2000) Print Server

1 Answer

I setup ZPS2000 using Windows XP notebook (not simple). When running software on Windows 7 desktop, the server cannot be found on the network. I can connect via IP address and ping it successfully. I have changed the default IP address of ZPS2000 to an static address in the range used by the Linksys wireless router. Even if I change my desktop IP address to the same range, the Zonet software cannot find the print server.

I had already downloaded the latest drivers form this link. I downloaded it again. The file runs an installation wizzard. The installations wizzard cannot fine the printserver on the network. This is the basic problem.

I tried adding a printer using printers and devices window. I tried adding as a local printer and network printer. I am sure there are many combinations of setups in these options, but I cannot find the printer on the network.

"Add a wireless device to the network" - Windows did not find any devices to add.

"View network computers and devices" to see the printers on the network. - There are no printers displayed in this window.

    Hi,

The wireless connection from your notebook to DSL-router may
interfere with the network connection to the ZPS2000. Shut that down.

    Please do the following procedures:

First had your printer working connected directly to your laptop and go to the web based menu to change the IP settings of the ZPS2000 and then reconnect to your DSL-router.

    Hope this works.

    Waiting your comments.

For your info: If you do not do in the order as in my previous comment, the IP settings and the subnet of the router may be different than the ones from the ZPS2000.

Iogear print server not compatible with windows 7

Not compatible or not working well with windows 7?

Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:)) julyallan01_52.jpg

I have window 7 64bit and the keyspan software installed fine but the server utility does not recognize the print server. I allowed port 3842 tcp and udp through the windows firewall but still no luck.

for key span server to work with windows 7 install windows xp mode to windows 7 ( this can be downloaded from microsoft website if you have windows 7 pro and above. if you have windows 7 home then install windows virtual pc, start it up and insert a windows xp pro install disk. for info on this google 'workaround to install windows xp mode in windows 7 home premium and home basic') Once you have windows xp mode running, install the keyspan server utility int he virtual machine and setup as usuall. then share the printer. go to windows 7 devices and printers and add a printer, chose a network printer, select the new virtual machine and select the shared printer. In order for the printer to work just start up the keyspan program from windows 7 and print....your welcome.

Wifi server

Once you have setup the central sever you can right click either the harddrive(s) or individual folders and there should be an option to share (or sharing and security). Open that and it should be quite straightforward to setup permissions so all computers can access those network places.
Next on the server right click My Computer and click properties. Write down what the workgroup name is.
Now go to the Vista laptops and goto Control Panel, then network places, or view wireless devices on network. Hopefully your shares will appear on the laptops and you can access them.
If they appear and you canot access them then you probably need to go back to step one and alter the permissions for sharing on the XP server.
Hope this helps, www.PuterCare.com

Failed response from plugin device

Dirty fix...
When the printer errors out...stop, unplug the power to the printserver. Reset the printer, Clear the print que (delete jobs/restart print spooling service), restart the printserver software and plug the printserver power back in. Wait for the re-detect. Everthing should be good at this point. Unfortunatly the print job will be lost and you need to print again...BUT, NO REBOOT yea!!!
Note... for me, if this sequence is not followed, I will have to reboot. The printserver will be locked for the PC that was trying to print. All other PC's will be fine, and I have no idea why.
Good luck,
Bill

Windows Vista home + Windows XP Professional Networking issue

Make sure domain settings to your server are correct on the notebook computer. These settings are located in the control panel of the system setting.

Whats the operating system of your server?

Make sure the firewall in windows security is turned off too. Sometimes that thing sneaks up on you.

I haven't used the home edition of Vista but another reason why it might not be working is because it isn't the business version. Microsoft might have added extra security to prevent the home version from connecting to a server. I know we use the business version of Vista at work and it is working that way on the intranet server without a problem.

I would check with Microsofts website on that.
