Lowrance says Ethernet is suitable, that's why I paid $75.00 for it.

Why have an Ethernet port if it serves no function?

I need to know why the two units are not responding to one another.

It appears no one is qualified to give me the correct answer.

I will have to spend 5 hours on the phone with Lowrance to get an answer.

Why would a fish sonar have an ip address?

  • conandemoe May 09, 2010

Ping Speeds are the same, your link times out, I don't know what you want me to look at.

I already have the users manual.

  • conandemoe May 09, 2010

According to the Lowrance website Ethenet port is used for that.

Where are you getting your information.

  • conandemoe May 09, 2010

Each unit head has a Ethernet port. The Ethernet cable connects to each port. According to Lowrance as long as your only using 2 units this is all you need.

  • conandemoe May 09, 2010

NMEA 2000 Devices page shows nothing

The other pages are specific to each unit.

    NMEA Status 0X06...05...0E

TX Errors 257 Bus traffic 0% and TX Errors 4,509

Two different IP ADDR 169.254.1.10 and IP 192.168.0.21

    Mac 00:0E:C2:OC:2F:09 and Mac 00:0E:C2:4A:10:13

RX 0 bytes and RX 1.17mb

    TX 59 and TX 2.472.47kb

  • conandemoe May 09, 2010

Also the LINK square lights up dark blue and flashes a little and the 100 mbps

  • conandemoe May 10, 2010

I tried each unit about 50 times on both soft and hard reset. Nothing happens.

All they do is ask me if I want to change the language from English to Spanish or German etc.

    This isn't working.

I even tried switching the heads around.

How are you connecting the ethernet cable from the transducer? In to 1 Lowrance and then Lowrance to Lowrance? Or did you try to split the signal somehow?

Sorry, I need a bit of information regarding the way you are connected. I assume you have a single transducer and it is connected to 1 X510c. You then purchased an Ethernet cable that connects each X510c units together. Below sketch: Green - power/transducer, Red - Ethernet to other X510c.

If this is the configuration you are using, I have questions about the NMEA 2000 setup. Could you tell me what you information you see on these screens:

Also, there is a lot of information I am digging up on the NMEA 2000 bus standard. I came across this URL link on the Lowrance site. It may help you if you if you push further into upgrade projects.

There's your problem. The IP addresses. They are not in the same group. 169.254.1.10 and IP 192.168.0.21... ex: 169.254.1.xx on both or 192.168.0.xx on both. The last digits should be different, but the first 3 sets must match. Try resetting both x510c and see if they come up with the similar IPs.

Same IP address each time? I'm wondering if they are static and have a setting somewhere... I'm going to dig a bit and get back with you in a few.

Poking around, I see some different posts calling out Software version 2.0, 2.4, 2.5.... So i wonder, do these 2 units have the same software version on them? You may have been on to the answer from the beginning.

Problem is, I can't locate a single source for downloading software updates. You may have to get Lowrance help if this is the case. They may be able to give you a URL to the update or you may need to send it to them... I don't know.

I know this isn't the same, but I did find a 2 Sonar -to- 1 Transducer cable in the accessory list... it has a switch though. But, it does make me wonder why they would sell this cable for $115.97 when you could purchase the Ethernet for $75 and just share the data... or can you?

As much as I want to help (not to mention, the research now has my mouth is now watering for an upgraded fish finder) I can't find enough documentation on device configuration over the NMEA 2000 network to be of use.

That unit can interface with GPS and fuel tank senders etc, that is what the ethernet cable is for.

  • Brad Brown May 10, 2010

IF you really want to see about them being able to talk to each other then you need to install an ethernet hub. You cannot hook two eithernet devices of the same type together and have them talk to each other.

  • Brad Brown May 10, 2010

Got a laptop? You can hook the laptop to the ethernet port and see if you can see the x510c. I am telling you though that you cannot hook two units of the same type together with a cat5 cable and have them see each other. IT is impossible because of the way the protocol and hardware are set.

Make sure the ethernet cable has cross over connection between devcie because both are same device.
Then make sure that ip address set in renge in both device set subnet mask same in both device and if you set ip in 1 device 192.168.1.1 set in other device as 192.168.1.2 then check.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Ethernet cable is NOT suitable to run a transducer from, you will get too much noise and reflections of signal, you should, must, ONLY use Co-axial cable, 50 OHM. and you must use a "Special length" to stop reflections and cancellations of signals. OR at least shielded cable, is a must have. So you will have to sort that out before you can be sure, of anything and also that it isn't the cable that is causing the/any problem. and the Transducer is actually working, really you need a oscilloscope, or frequency meter to tell.

Does the x510c have a speed and temp transducer or just the paddle seperately

Hi Rick

There is only one transducer. for speed/temperature. From page 2 of the owner's manual (see link below)
"A single-frequency with built-in temperature
sensor is packed with the X-510c"

Hope this helps and happy boating!
-Steve

The GPS component of my Lowrance Elite-5 Gold is malfunctioning about 50% of the time.

Hey Les, Since you have replace both the unit and transducer, you have eliminated/diagnosed most of your problem.. Its in the wiring... sometime when I am in full GPS mode I get erroneous depth readings..?? Have you tried a different GPS module (the "puck")?

My Lowrance X-51 is not reading the depth sitting still of running . Do I need a new transducer ?

Yes quite possibly... But a few things to try/check first before you go out and get a new transducer...

1. Ensure the transducer is fully submersed below the waterline when floating and when on the plane... try lowering it more if you can.
2. Check the surface of the transducer itself (the underside) pointing down... If there are any minor scratches or scuffs, this can effect its function or performance. Minor scratches or marks can be sanded out with fine wet/dry sandpaper (at least 400 or 800 grit).
3. Isolate any electrical wires running near or next to the transducer cable. Also check connection of cable at head unit, and that the pins etc are clean, free of corrosion and making good contact.
4. Take your head unit to your Lowrance dealer and they may have a transducer there to use to diagnose whether it is indeed the trasnducer or a problem with the head unit.

Good luck!

Lowrance depth finder missing adapter cable

I own a 1995 Four Winns and what you need is a Lowrance LSM-1 depth finder unit. It accepts the two pin lead from the transducer and send the depth reading to the dashboard display via the 6-pin connector. There is also a three wire harness (red/blk/wht) that connects to a power supply.

The reason I know all this is my depth finder fried a couple years ago so I removed the Lowrance LSM-1 from the boat in order to find a replacement. Unfortunately, this was an OEM part that is not available from Four Winns or any aftermarket source. Probably your best bet is to look in a boat salvage yard or purchase an aftermarket depth finder.

X510c most of the time it reads 1.6 for the depth, it flashes 1.6 then it will go to the correct depth for a shqrt time then get stuck on 1.6 again some times other depths but mostly 1.6

Does this occur at any depths...over 20ft even.

The X510c will have problems keeping depth in shallow water...especially if it is muddy, weedy down there.

If the problem occurs even in depth over 20ft, then try resetting the unit:

1. Turn unit off
2. Press and hold ZIN, ZOUT, and PWR until you see the depth (flashing or not) in the top left corner.

If the problem still occurs, make sure the transducer is clean and still mounted so that it is sending the signal straight down to the bottom.

If the problem still occurs, make sure the power is good. You can have the voltage displayed on the screen through the overlay data menu.

Does the problem occur at any speed? If the problem clears up when you stop or slow down, the problem is due to cavitation and the transducer will need to be moved to a location where it is in a smooth flow of water at all speeds.

If none of this helps, there may be a malfunction with the X510c. You can try to update it but you will need to get the software update from someone at Lowrance support and then find a way to connect your X510c to a Lowrance unit that has a memory card slot via a NMEA 2000 network. I can help you with this if you need.

Other than that you can have the X510c returned to the factory for service.

Lowrance x135 not functioning properly

Had the same issue with another brand. Turned out the transducer cable was picking up noise from other cables (power, trolling mtr. etc). Try moving the transducer cable away from any other cables. I put the cable in a 1/4 " plastic housing up to the point where it was above deck and it stopped all the strange stuff. Not sure about the temp issue??

Lowrance LCX-19C GPS Receiver Problem

It sounds like you may have to send it out for service, but before you you do there are a few things you can try.

Low voltage can cause erratic behavior. Since you already wired directly to the battery, check the plug for corrosion.

Try unplugging the transducer cable to see if the display still behaves erratically. You wont see depth readings but you should still see the screen going black. If no erratic behavior with transducer unplugged then problem is in the transducer cable or the plug. A common source of failure is at the plug because the added stress of plugging and unplugging cables can cause the socket to twist slightly which can cause a short.

Make sure you have the latest software update.

How to see if your LCX-19C is already using version 1.8.0 software:
  1. Press the MENU button twice on your LCX-19C.
  2. Select SYSTEM SETUP.
  3. Select SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
  4. The software version for your unit is located under the line that says "LCX-19C" (ex. "Version 1.8.0").
  5. If your version is the same version listed above, there is no need to download the software.
If it is lower than 1.8.0 you can download the update from this link: LCX-19C UPDATE
Copy it onto a blank MMC card and install it in your GPS. The GPS should prompt you on how to install the update.

If you need to send the unit in for service click this link: LOWRANCE SERVICE

Good luck!
