A leaking pump seal will let water migrate into the bearing which displaces lubricant and leads to bearing failure.

Need to replace old pump.

easy both of them are junk. get a (sta-rite max e click on it) a 1.5 hp should do just fine. the 2hp is to run your spa and not economical to do unless you you have two pumps one for the pool and one for the spa.. if you have a 2 story house with solar you will need a 2hp
used pumps can be tricky so search for your local pool pump repair guy and see if he could build you one, this will save you money and be handy if you need repairs in the future ! ask him how to take care of your pump !

Does the pump come with the wiring set up for high voltage? I am referring to the brown and white internal wires. Pentair Challenger 346206. thank you

If you look at the wiring diagram on the motor plate it will show you where these wires go for 220v power, and where they go for 110v Power. If you know the supply voltage just place these wires as shown on the diagram and you should be fine.

Good morning. Three years ago we had an inground 15,000 gallon salt water pool installed that included a Pentair pump. The last couple of mornings there is a terrrible whine occurring as the pump kicks...

More than likly it's a square flange motor. If the noise is just starting when you take the pump apart you can check the impeller for problems but the most likley is a bearing going bad from a seal leak. If you remove the wires and take the motor with the back half of the pump to a pool store they can diagnose it for you and do the nessary repairs at the shop. Usually they will do this for a small bench fee or for just the price of the nessary parts.

I have a challenger pool pump that has a very high pitch sound

The motor bearings are probably starting to fail. If you winterize the pool I would take the motor portion off the pump and have a local electric motor repair shop look at it. A simple bearing change and new pump seal would run $50 or less at most places. If not, shock the pool and run the pump overnight to balance the water and then pull the motor for the repair. It will probably only take a day or so for it to be completed.

Replace the motor bearings before they fail completely and ruin the motor.
