I bought a Parmak Solar Pak 6. I wanted to use it

I bought a Parmak Solar Pak 6. I wanted to use it to keep bears out of a camp. The area enclosed is about 100' x 100' with three wires of Basygard Light duty wire. Although is has some shock it does not seem to have enough to keep the bears out. When I touch the live wire there is very little shock. Should I get a bigger unit or is this one not installed correctly.

The Parmak Solar 6, though they claim is more, is less then 1/2 a joule of output power. Even if you maintain enough voltage to shock the bears there is not enough power behind that voltage to hurt them. In our experience, you need at least 5 joules to really stop bears.

When you touch the wire, you are probably wearing shoes, which ground you,
touching it barefoot or kneeling on bare knees should provide a bit more jolt.
take your multi-meter, shove one probe in the ground and touch the wire with the other and you should get a nice reading

Hi, I have a 25 mile range Parmak solar pak 6 fence charger. When I test the lines it reads .02 and I noticed that the energizer unit itself is energized. I tested the unit and it reads between 3.8 to 4.6....

Any point you measure has to be compared to a reference. This can not be accomplished by just touching one must be compared to something. Do I make sense the way I explain this?
Hope this helps! Good luck

My older charger has been sitting for 10+ years and the battery wouldn't take a charge when I pulled it out of storage. How do I remove and replace the battery? Magnum 12 Solar Pak unit.

take the unit and place it in front of you. place your left hand at the top left hand corner of the solar panel. with the heal of your right hand strike firmly on the bottom right corner of the solar panel. alternatively take a flat head screw driver and locate the divot on either of the short sides of the battery case. below the divot find the edge of the battery case lid and pry the top of using the screwdriver.

When my Mark 6 does its job and shocks a cow it pops the GFI that it is plugged in to. How do I fix that?

Replace the GFI with a standard plug. the unit has its own ground return which cause the GFI to trip.

We have a Parmak electric fencer, model # s.e.3 and serial # 4401002. It just quit working. When you plug it in it makes this humming sound and then quits. Any ideas?

That sounds like the circuit board has failed in the unit. you can call Parmak and see about either purchasing a replacement circuit board , or getting the unit serviced by them or an authorized service center.

Why do my horses keep going through the fence in the winter? We have the 12v solar unit! It seems as though there is a delay with the shock!

Trim your horses whiskers (on the muzzle) and they won't be able to tell if the wire is hot or not. Horses test electric fencing with whiskers. I would suspect because days are shorter and more cloud cover your charger is not producing enough power.

Either a voltage limiter (because a solar panel can put out upto 21 volts.... BUT more likely a diode - which prevents the storage batteries from discharging through the solar panels (power goes only INTO the batteries when the diode is working.
Radio Shack will be able to match it if you remove it and take it to them.
