Question about Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera
New cards must be formatted in the camera. This erases and optimizes the card for that particular camera. Be sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position.

try formatting the card once on a pc and then plug it in your camera....if that does not help either, you'll have to try a different card.

Take out your memory card from the camera and then inspect a small or tiny switch. This is the card lock. You need to move it the other way around to enable write back on the memory card.
Hope this helps you out.
